A new backstage update has explained how AEW reacted to Ricochet‘s recent apology after his social media comment toward a fan with multiple sclerosis (MS) caught fire.
The issue started after AEW Revolution. Ricochet was part of a storyline that included a backstage meltdown video. While it was meant to build his character, things went south when a fan named Sandi criticized his acting online. Ricochet responded with a harsh comment about her MS condition, which brought in a lot of backlash.
Ricochet replied to Sandi’s criticism and wrote, “I’m glad you got MS.” Although pro wrestlers try to maintain kayfabe in real life as well, many felt that joking about a real illness was not acceptable.
At first, Ricochet defended himself. He said social media can be very toxic and claimed that he and his wife often get hateful messages and sometimes even death wishes. He argued that his reply was meant to call out that behavior.
However, later, Ricochet deleted the post and shared an apology on X. He admitted he was wrong, said he let his frustration get the better of him, and apologized to the fan and others affected by MS. He also promised to “do better” in the future.
Report Reveals AEW’s Response To Ricochet’s Apology
According to a report by Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select, AEW did not force him to apologize. Instead, they advised him that apologizing would be the right thing to do. The report also said that Warner Bros. Discovery was not involved in this decision.
“An update: I’ve been told that AEW nor WBD made Ricochet apologize. AEW officials told him afterwards it was the right thing to do,” he tweeted.
It suggests that AEW let Ricochet handle the situation himself while still guiding him in the right direction. It also helped protect the company’s image.
Ricochet is a big part of AEW. Since joining in 2024, he quickly made an impact and even became the first National Champion. Recently, he lost to Jack Perry at Revolution Zero Hour.
While that loss was part of the script, the real-life issue has affected how fans see him. Ricochet, anyway, faces criticism from some fans for taking shots at WWE quite frequently on X.
