AEW‘s Will Ospreay says he will not perform a high-risk move again after undergoing neck surgery.
Former International Champion Will Ospreay returned to AEW at the Revolution PPV in March after recovering from neck surgery. In his recent interview with Rob Wolkenbrod for Forbes, Ospreay opened up about the biggest adjustments he had to make in his in-ring style following the surgery.
Will Ospreay noted that he has stopped performing certain high-risk moves because years of wrestling have reduced his range of motion. He also revealed that he will no longer perform the shooting star press because it’s unsafe and uncomfortable for him to get the necessary back arch and head position to execute the move.
“It’s mainly my range of motion right now. There are so many things where I just don’t feel comfortable doing certain tricks anymore, so I’ve kind of knocked them on the head. For example, I won’t do a shooting star press anymore because that required me to really put my head back and get a good arch, and I just can’t do it anymore,” Will Ospreay said.
Will Ospreay hopes to compete in the G1 Climax Tournament again
During his recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Will Ospreay noted that it will be hard to ask Tony Khan for six weeks off from AEW to compete in this year’s G1 Climax in NJPW, which will run from July 11 to August 16, 2026. However, he hopes to enter the tournament at some point in the future. He also wants to compete for the newly revived “V4” IWGP Heavyweight Championship belt.
“It’s hard to ask Tony this year if I can take about six weeks off, but I’ve talked to my wife about it, and I do want to participate in the G1 Climax again someday. I’ve never won it, so I want to try again. Also, the fourth-generation IWGP Heavyweight belt, which was revived this year, has been worn by Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega, and others, and I’ve always admired them. So I also want that belt,” Will Ospreay said.
