Dirty Dango believes The Fashion Police could have had a longer run in WWE, but every niche team and character has a shelf life.
IMPACT Wrestling‘s Dirty Dango was a recent guest on Desert Island Graps to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his time as a member of The Fashion Police with Tyler Breeze, Dirty Dango said he really enjoyed it but understands niche characters like that have a shelf life.
“I feel like everybody always thinks they could get a longer run, whether it’s Nexus or The Fashion Police. But everything has a shelf life; you can only play a niche character for so long,” Dirty Dango said. “That’s why guys like Edge and Christian etc., are such great talents because they’re always thinking of what’s coming up next. It’s like being an actor. You can’t play the same character for 5, 10 years straight; eventually, you got to change it up. I knew that niche kind of comedy act wasn’t gonna last forever.
“The thing about being comedy is you’re kind of pigeon holed into that one segment on the show, and maybe you’ll get a chance to go for the titles or title, but you’re not really into that contendership as much being a comedy act. Unfortunately, there was kind of a catch-22 because did comedy really good. So we’re kind of pigeon holed into that spot. And I guess that was the crescendo of our team was that tag match. So I think that’s why it meant so much to us because we actually were guys that were on the chopping block that decided hey, if we’re gonna get fired, let’s just do some backstage promos.
“Those backstage promos turned into a dot com series which turned into a SmackDown series which turned into a tag team title spot. So I think going back to your question or statement, when you take something that you yourself as a performer, an artist and invest into it means that much more to you, kind of like a Matt Cardona. He invested into his character, and he still does. I think that’s why it means so much to him because he puts a lot of thought into what he does. He doesn’t have just some people writing his promos for him, and Breeze and I put a lot of thought into all that, so I think that’s why it meant so much to us.”
