Road Dogg Reveals Why He Left WWE

Road Dogg says he feels a little wronged by WWE.

In March 2026, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg, who was serving as the co-head writer of SmackDown, parted ways with the promotion. Reports indicated that he chose to leave the company rather than be released. He reportedly openly expressed his unhappiness with his role in the creative team before tendering his resignation.

Road Dogg says he didn’t have a purpose in WWE

While he has already revealed the reason for his departure from WWE, he explained it again during his appearance on Busted Open Radio. He noted that he felt wronged by the promotion and that he was receiving a paycheck without having a purpose.

“Did any of you watch (WWE Unreal)? I know you’re (Bully Ray) not a fan of the show. I’m old, so I’m not a fan of it either,” Road Dogg began. “It’s a little behind the scenes, but I feel like I don’t need to tell you what happened. I feel like if you watch that show… You saw what happened, and so here I sit with you tonight, and I’m a happy man because of it.

“I have friends there that are still going to be there. I have gripes,” Road Dogg continued. “I do have gripes, but in saying that, it even sounds funny to say, like, ‘Oh, you’re just going to gripe about some stuff then? Like, why? What?’ Some of the people there are still my friends.

“I feel like I was done a little wrong, and I feel like I was receiving a paycheck, and I didn’t have any purpose. I was making a dollar, but I wasn’t making any decisions. You know what I mean? I think I can make a difference somewhere where maybe I don’t make as many dollars. And in this phase of my life, that’s what I’m thinking about,” Road Dogg said.
