David Finlay Appears on AEW Dynamite After Recent Free Agency

A familiar name from the international wrestling scene, David Finlay, made an unexpected appearance on AEW television this week, signaling a new chapter after recently entering free agency.

During the March 4 episode of AEW Dynamite, the night’s action seemed to wrap up normally after a tag team bout featuring Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy against Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors. Cassidy secured the win with an Orange Punch, giving his team a decisive victory.

But the celebration didn’t last long. Moments after the bell, the atmosphere shifted when an unexpected figure stormed the ring, turning a routine post-match moment into something far more chaotic.

David Finlay Appears in AEW Following Free Agency

David Finlay made his surprise appearance by attacking both Allin and Cassidy, immediately changing the tone of the segment. The assault didn’t come out of nowhere — Finlay was quickly joined by Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors inside the ring.

Together, the trio stood tall after the ambush, signaling the formation of a new alliance on AEW television. The group is now being referred to as “The Dogs,” a name that echoes their previous connection to the Bullet Club War Dogs faction in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Finlay’s arrival follows his recent free agency after his NJPW contract expired on February 17, 2026. His future had been the subject of speculation, with reports indicating that WWE had communicated with him previously. However, sources also noted that he was not part of WWE’s creative plans at the time.

That uncertainty now appears resolved. Finlay’s Dynamite debut suggests AEW has secured the next step in his career — and he didn’t waste time making an impact.

The segment also marked Finlay’s first official appearance as an AEW-contracted talent, though he previously wrestled once for the promotion in 2022 against “Hangman” Adam Page.

For AEW’s roster, the arrival of Finlay and the formation of The Dogs adds another faction to the mix. And if their debut is any indication, this pack isn’t here to fetch wins quietly — they’re here to hunt.
