AEW Dynamite Results

The broadcast team previews tonight’s lineup as a fired-up El Paso crowd rocks the arena with loud “A-E-Dub!” chants. A video package then airs, recapping the events that set up the opening match between MJF and Kevin Knight for the AEW World Championship.

MJF (c) vs. Kevin Knight – AEW World Championship Match

  • The finish of the match saw MJF counter Kevin Knight’s UFO Splash by getting his knees up, immediately setting up the Heatseeker for the decisive victory.

After the bell, MJF attempts to launch a sneak attack on Kevin Knight, but he is distracted by Hangman Adam Page standing on the ramp. Friedman turns around and is promptly dropped with a superkick from Mike Bailey. Speedball then helps his partner to his feet as MJF retreats up the ramp, sending the show to a commercial break.

Winner and still AEW World Champion: MJF

Grade: A-

An absolutely incredible display of action to kick off the AEW Dynamite broadcast. This is how you protect your champion while elevating a rising star. MJF rarely wrestles on weekly television, but it feels like must-see viewing every time he steps into the ring. As for Kevin Knight, the sky’s the limit for “The Jet” after a breakout performance tonight.

Brawl before the bell

Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy jump The Dogs before the opening bell, sparking a massive brawl. Gabe Kidd sends Allin crashing into the ringside steel steps, then repositions the steps near the timekeeper’s area and locks Cassidy in a chokehold submission.

Cassidy goes limp but manages to disorient Kidd with a punch. Clark Connors capitalizes on the distraction and spears Cassidy through a table at ringside.

Kidd then sends Darby inside the ring as the referee finally calls for the opening bell.

Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy vs. Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors

  • The finish of the match sees Darby Allin hit Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors with a Coffin Drop on the outside before sending Connors back into the ring for Orange Cassidy to connect with the Orange Punch for the win.

The post-match celebration is cut short when a debuting David Finlay attacks Cassidy and Allin with a shillelagh. Finlay continues the assault as Connors and Kidd rejoin him in the ring. The segment ends with The Dogs standing tall.

Winners: Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy

Grade: B-

A great pre-match brawl followed by a solid match. Finlay arrives to a surprisingly muted reaction from the crowd. It’s unclear whether the audience isn’t familiar with his run in New Japan Pro-Wrestling or if the company’s presentation simply didn’t resonate here. Either way, Cassidy and Allin may need to find a third partner, as they’re now at a three-on-two disadvantage on the road to AEW Revolution.

We hear from Bandido and Andrade

Bandido says he grew up watching Andrade compete and that it will be a dream come true when he faces El Idolo at Revolution. Andrade fires back, mocking Bandido by saying he doesn’t see him as the best wrestler alive, but rather as an Andrade fan. He questions whether Bandido wants to fight or just take a selfie, pulling out his smartphone — only to leave Bandido hanging as he walks off to take a call.

The Brawling Birds vs. The IInspiration

The IInspiration attempt to “run it back” in Jey Uso fashion, but they are attacked from behind by Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter as the referee calls for the opening bell.

The match ends quickly for Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee, who fall to the hard-hitting offense of The Brawling Birds.

Winners: The Brawling Birds

Grade: Nil

So, The IInspiration leave TNA Wrestling, where they were Knockouts World Tag Team Champions, only to end up enhancement talent for The Brawling Birds on AEW Dynamite. At least they’re getting paid, so whatever makes them happy.

Hangman Adam Page in action

Hangman Adam Page makes quick work of a local enhancement talent with a Buckshot Lariat before calling out MJF ahead of their Texas Death Match at AEW Revolution.

The AEW World Champion appears and immediately insults the El Paso crowd. Friedman distracts Page long enough for The Don Callis Family to launch a surprise attack. Kyle Fletcher sets up Page for Mark Davis to level him with a lariat, dropping the AEW World Trios Tag Team Champion.

The heels regroup on the ramp as Don Callis makes his way out to loud “F*** Don Callis” chants. Callis claims he spoke with Tony Khan and announces that JetSet Rodeo will defend their AEW World Trios Tag Team Championships against Mark Davis and ProtOkada — Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada — later tonight.

Commentary then hypes up the impromptu main event for AEW Dynamite.

Earlier today on AEW Dynamite

A video package airs showing FTR and The Young Bucks sharing their thoughts ahead of the AEW World Tag Team Championship match at Revolution.

Dax Harwood says that The Briscoe Brothers, FTR, and The Young Bucks are the three greatest tag teams of this millennium. He recalls FTR’s feud with Mark Briscoe and the late Jay Briscoe, noting that FTR has already defeated The Briscoes twice and will cement themselves as the greatest tag team of the millennium after beating Matt and Nick at Revolution.

Matt Jackson recounts their confrontation on a previous episode of AEW Collision, which saw FTR attack one of the Bucks’ brothers in front of their families. The exchange turns heated, but a no-physical-contact clause prevents an all-out brawl. Despite this, FTR takes out Brandon Cutler with a cheap shot, since he has a punchable face, adding more fuel to the already personal tag team title feud.

Jon Moxley vs. Hechicero – AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match

  • The finish saw Jon Moxley hit Hechicero with a double knee strike, followed by a double underhook DDT for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jon Moxley

After the match, Moxley heads into the crowd as Konosuke Takeshita makes his way to the ring. The Alpha points to the AEW Revolution sign, referencing his upcoming Continental Championship match against The Death Rider.

Grade: B+

This match could have benefited from more time, as it was starting to build momentum before the finish. Hechicero showcased his unique offense — no wonder he’s called “The Mad Scientist of Lucha Libre.” As for Moxley, he successfully fended off a series of eliminator matches, maintaining his strong momentum heading into AEW Revolution.

Brody King calls out Swerve Strickland

Brody King arrives to cut a promo on Swerve Strickland, calling him out to face him one-on-one. Prince Nana appears and questions whether Brody is ready to go down that rabbit hole with Strickland. King remains undeterred.

Nana then introduces the “real most dangerous man in AEW” as Strickland’s music hits. The introduction proves to be a distraction, as Strickland attacks King from behind with a steel cage before hitting a House Call. Strickland then wraps a chain around King’s throat, attempting to choke the life out of the former AEW World Trios Tag Team Champion.

Strickland grabs a microphone and mocks King, saying, “That’s how you chain a dog.” He references putting Kenny Omega down and now doing the same to King, noting the difference between calling oneself the most dangerous man and actually being the most dangerous man. Strickland accepts King’s challenge for AEW Revolution, bragging that he even “hung a man in LA” as Bandido arrives to cap off the segment.

The Death Riders speak

Daniel Garcia mocks Hechicero for coming up short in his Continental Championship eliminator match against Jon Moxley earlier on AEW Dynamite.

Wheeler Yuta removes his hoodie to reveal his bald head, earning a pop from the crowd. Yuta says that he’s enduring the pain of losing his hair because of The Death Riders.

Marina Sharif calls out Toni Storm, telling her to “shoot from the hip and make me laugh, you pussy.” The comment causes the rest of The Death Riders to momentarily break character.

Moxley then takes over to call out several podcasters and advertising agencies for getting involved in pro wrestling before hyping up his upcoming AEW Revolution match against Konosuke Takeshita.

Thekla (c) vs. Thunder Rosa – AEW Women’s World Championship Match

  • The finish of the match saw Thekla hit Thunder Rosa with a second spear, followed by a second stomp for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Sisters of Sin — Skye Blue and Julia Hart — arrive to congratulate the AEW Women’s World Champion. Kris Statlander then shows up to confront The Triangle of Madness, but security intervenes. Taking advantage of the distraction, Thekla hits Thunder Rosa with another stomp before being chased away by Statlander.

Grade: C+

The weakest match of the night by far. This writer has yet to warm up to Thekla as the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion. Thunder Rosa had the home-field advantage but came up short in her title challenge. It appears a matchup between Statlander and Thekla is likely down the line.

Jack Perry and The Demand video package

A pre-taped promo airs featuring Jack Perry and The Demand. Perry references the multi-man main event from last week’s AEW Dynamite before highlighting his third pinfall victory over Ricochet. The AEW National Champion also directs some pointed words toward the former TNT Champion.

‘Hello, old friend’

Tommaso Ciampa sits down for a ringside interview with Renee Paquette. Ciampa references his recent TNT Championship loss to Kyle Fletcher on AEW Dynamite and teases a future match with Mark Briscoe.

The Psycho Killer is interrupted by FTR and Stokely Hathaway. FTR and Ciampa share a group hug as Dax Harwood welcomes his old rival to AEW and extends an olive branch, inviting Ciampa to join FTR and take over All Elite Wrestling.

Ciampa looks down on Hathaway and tells him to “shut up, the grown-ups are talking.” He reminds everyone that while The Young Bucks and FTR may have a no-contact clause, he does not — and proceeds to rock Harwood with a jab. Harwood stops Cash Wheeler from intervening, telling Ciampa he’s not mad and that they’ll see each other on AEW Collision.

Toni Storm addresses the attack on Orange Cassidy by The Dogs. She delivers a hilarious promo targeting both The Dogs and The Death Riders, mocking their antics before telling the cameraman to get out of the room.

JetSet Rodeo (c) vs. The Don Callis Family – AEW World Trios Tag Team Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Kazuchika Okada hit Kevin Knight with a Rainmaker, followed by a piledriver from Mark Davis for the pinfall victory.

Winners and new AEW World Trios Tag Team Champions: The Don Callis Family

Grade: A-

Dropping the Trios Tag Team titles this close to AEW Revolution was unexpected. MJF’s run-in proved decisive, giving Hangman Page the ultimate disadvantage. If the math is correct, The Don Callis Family now holds five AEW titles: the Trios Championships, Kyle Fletcher’s TNT Championship, and Kazuchika Okada’s International Championship. An absolute shocker to close out AEW Dynamite in El Paso, Texas.

Overall Grade: B+

A solid episode heading into AEW Revolution. The opening AEW World Championship match between MJF and Kevin Knight was fantastic. Two squash matches followed, including the former WWE and TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions The IInspiration being utterly obliterated by The Brawling Birds. The women’s world title match, however, was underwhelming.

MJF costing JetSet Rode their Trios Tag Team titles hints at a potentially controversial finish for the AEW World Championship match at Revolution. That wraps up tonight’s AEW Dynamite coverage — this writer will be back next week with more live coverage.
