Seth Rollins explained why fans now question his injuries and admitted he is responsible for losing that trust.
Last year, Rollins faked an injury in a storyline after a match with LA Knight, later revealing the truth at WWE SummerSlam when he cashed in Money in the Bank on CM Punk. Soon after, he suffered a real injury in a match against Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Seth Rollins was asked how fans could trust that this injury was real. Rollins answered honestly, noting that his blew his own credibility by faking the first one.
“I guess you don’t. I hate it. You can call my doctor if you want. Otherwise, you’re just going to have to take my word for it,” Rollins explained. “But yeah, I mean, that’s on me. I’ve blown my credibility when it comes to my injuries, but, pays the same, so I don’t really care.”
Rollins then explained how the injury happened in the match against Cody Rhodes. While attempting a coast-to-coast diving headbutt, he landed awkwardly and injured his shoulder instead. He thought he might have separated his shoulder, but it was clearly much worse.
“Now, I’ve had shoulder injuries before. I’ve separated my shoulders multiple times. So, I was kind of like maybe it’s just a separation. Obviously, the adrenaline kind of pushed me through the rest of the match, which is about another 10 minutes.”
“I had to do a couple things I probably shouldn’t have done, but I was like safety-wise, he’s not in danger. You know, this is me analyzing in the moment. He’s not in danger. We can get through it. I don’t think I’m going to hurt it any worse. So, let’s just do it. We get through the match. I win. Thank you.”
Seth Rollins says shoulder rehab is worse than his 2015 knee injury
Seth Rollins described the rehab as worse than his major knee injury in 2015. Wearing a brace nonstop for six weeks made sleeping nearly impossible. He said the lack of deep sleep affected his recovery, mood, and stress levels.
“Well, it’s super painful, and I find that the sleeping was extremely difficult because I’m in a brace non-stop for six weeks. So, like you, I have to sleep in this brace, which means you have to sleep upright. Um, and it’s really uncomfortable. You can’t get solid rest. Any sort of small movement sort of, you know, wakes you up and triggers you.”
“And so, you can’t get into, like, a deep sleep. You can’t get good REM. You can’t get good deep sleep, so your recovery is bad. So your mood is bad, so your stress level’s up. And then the rehab is just painful. It’s slow, and it’s painful. Like, I mean, I was doing isometric holds, you know, for weeks, just staring at a wall for 30 seconds at a time, pushing into the wall side, this way, that way, this way, that way, backwards and I’m like, ‘God, this sucks.'”
“Once the brace came off after six weeks, had a couple weeks where it was sketchy. And now I’m at 12 weeks right now this week coming up I’m, like, finally, you know, like I’m good. I can, you know, mobility’s good. Just got to keep it and then work on the strength. And, you know, like I said, hopefully we’re on track for sometime before April 20th or whenever WrestleMania is.”
