John Cena Confirms When His Final WWE SmackDown Appearance Will Be

John Cena is saying goodbye to the blue brand.

Cena is set to appear on Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown at the AllState Arena in Chicago. Cena made his WWE debut in the same venue on the June 27, 2002 episode of SmackDown, answering an open challenge against Kurt Angle.

According to a recent report from WrestleVotes, there was a belief in WWE that Friday’s show would mark Cena’s last appearance on SmackDown before he retires.

“We’re told some within WWE are quietly expecting tomorrow night to be John Cena’s final SmackDown,” WrestleVotes wrote. “According to a source, with only seven remaining dates left—and just two yet to be announced—it’s unlikely another will be a SmackDown event, meaning Cena will have debuted and ended his run on the blue brand in the very same building, Chicago’s Allstate Arena.”

Two more dates on Cena’s retirement tour were announced on Friday, effectively ruling out any more Friday night appearances. Now, Cena has confirmed that September 5 will mark his final SmackDown appearance, writing the following on Twitter/X:

“My @WWE debut was on #Smackdown at @AllstateArena. Few, if any, places rival the feeling in that building with a sold-out Chicago crowd. We get to do it one last time for my final Smackdown appearance,” he wrote. “Tonight is one you are NOT going to want to miss. Let’s go CHI-TOWN!”

Cena’s retirement match was originally believed to be taking place in his hometown of Boston. However, one of the dates WWE announced on Friday was a November episode of RAW in Boston. WWE has yet to publicly confirm where John Cena’s retirement match will take place, but a new report revealed the new location where it’s planned.
