WrestleMania XL was a moment that Cody Rhodes will never forget.
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes recently sat down with WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page on his DDP Yoga YouTube Channel. When asked about finally defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL and becoming WWE Champion for the first time, Rhodes called it a high he didn’t even know existed.
“There’s a high you know about, that you want to get to and hit, and then there’s a high you don’t know about that’s so beyond what you could have thought it would be,” Cody Rhodes said. “And that is where I found myself in the end of that match, where I wasn’t just, oh, this was it. This is how I wanted to feel. I feel so good.
“It was another level of feeling accomplishment and feeling pride in the work we had done and the work that, you know, everyone who, who was there and, and in my case, and I actually would say that in the most people’s cases, but I’m just thinking in a vacuum a little bit. But in my case, it was very real.
“We went to dinner, the 20 of us, or whatever it was, on Thursday night. And then two nights in a row, you guys have the suite. That’s why I was really tickled when I asked at the dinner. I was like, ‘Hey, who was here last year?’ Everybody. So the fact that, like, this real team of people, my in-laws, my sister, my friends, little Brodie, this real team of people were there for it. I thought, oh, man, this is really a real sincere thing that’s happening in the wrestling space, and for me, it was just a high I didn’t know about.
Cody Rhodes is still riding the high from WrestleMania XL
“And now I’ll be honest, still in it. Hunter asked me two weeks after Mania. Triple H had asked me he goes, ‘Have you come down yet?’ And I wanted to say yes because we’re we’ve got things that we’re focused on now we’re moving towards now. And I was focused on them, and I was moving towards whatever was in front of me. But still, like, I don’t know. The best way to describe it is like a fog.
“The best fog ever that’s just around. And I’ve said out loud a lot of times, like, we did this, we did that, and that’s just, I feel good because for so long I couldn’t say that. And, yeah, just the greatest feeling I didn’t know existed that now I know exists and the sickness that all wrestlers have, you gotta chase it again. You gotta find it. But I also know if that’s the peak. It was a really exceptional build and run. I don’t think it’s the peak, but that was special.”
