Mark Briscoe is going to AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
At AEW Double or Nothing, Adam Copeland retained the TNT Championship when he defeated Malakai Black. However, he suffered a fractured Tibia that required surgery, so he vacated the title. AEW announced that a new champion would be crowned in a ladder match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
Qualifiers for the ladder match continued on the June 5 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, Brian Cage faced ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe. Cage overpowered Briscoe, but the fan-favorite kept fighting. He later rallied with a flurry of offense. Briscoe dove onto Cage at ringside. Cage gained the upper hand again, but Briscpe rallied again and scored the win with the Froggy Bow.
After the match, Jack Perry was shown backstage. He sarcastically applauded and said that he could not be stopped. Perry said that one way or another, he was the next TNT Champion.
Konosuke Takeshita previously qualified for the Ladder Match by defeating Penta El Zero Miedo on the May 31 episode of AEW Rampage.
