AEW Dynamite Results (6/5/24): MJF Returns, Swerve Strickland In Action

AEW Dynamite Results – June 5, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with the return of Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

MJF says he’s here to put everyone on notice and plugs the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view. MJF says he’s been sitting at home watching a lot of people making a lot of bold claims on his TV show. Max buries Kazuchika Okada’s physique, and Swerve Strickland refers to himself as a business mogul.

MJF turns his attention to Will Ospreay and takes exception to him calling himself the best in the world. MJF says he’s the best in the world as he did the impossible of becoming the face of AEW in just five years.

Max says he started as one of the most hated people on the planet to one of the most beloved. MJF says he’s upset that people tried to smear his name while he sat at home recovering from an injury. MJF is cut off by RUSH, who says, like most Americans, he never shuts up.

RUSH says while MJF has been gone, he’s been here working hard and wrestling, and now that MJF is back, he gets a big celebration. RUSH wants to know where his moment and celebration are, and if they aren’t gonna give him one, he’s gonna take it.

MJF says he didn’t get any of that. Max buries RUSH before admitting he knows who he is, as he paid him a lot of money to try and take out Bryan Danielson. MJF continues to bury RUSH on the mic until he rushes to the ring, and the two men brawl. Christopher Daniels and security come out and try to settle things down and separate both men.

Will a match between RUSH and MJF be made for AEW Dynamite tonight?

A video package plays for Roderick Strong, hyping up tonight’s main event against Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship.

Rey Fenix (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Jay Lethal (w/ Sonjay Dutt), Orange Cassidy, and Kyle O’Reilly in an International Title Contender’s Match

  • Rey Fenix reversed Jay Lethal’s figure four into a roll-up to score the pinfall victory.

Fenix will now challenge Will Ospreay for the International Championship next week on AEW Dynamite.

Trent Beretta and Don Callis come to the ring to attack Orange Cassidy, but he grabs a steel chain to even the odds. Kris Statlander comes out and punches Cassidy in the face. Willow Nightingale runs out to chase off Statlander before Cassidy has to get physical.

FTW Champion Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith arrive at the arena. In his mocking tone, Jericho scolds the driver and the cameraman before the three men enter the building.

Renee Paquette speaks with Willow Nightingale backstage. Nightingale says she can admit she lost at Double or Nothing, and she congratulates Mercedes. Nightingale says a rematch will come at some point as she would have the match won if not for her…friends.

Willow says she’s not surprised by Hathaway’s betrayal, but Statlander was her girl. She says she might have a big smile, but you have no idea how dangerous she can be. Orange Cassidy comes in and gives her a fist bump of respect.

Christopher Daniels comes out and announces a TNT Championship qualifier match will take place right now on Dynamite.

Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe defeated Brian Cage in a TNT Title Qualifier Match

  • Mark Briscoe hits Brian Cage with Froggy Bo to score the pinfall victory.

Who will win the vacant TNT Championship?

Jack Perry appears on the Tron backstage. Perry congratulates Mark Briscoe for qualifying but says it doesn’t really matter. Perry says Tony Khan is trying to screw him, but he’s already been chosen, and he will be the next TNT Champion.

Samoa Joe and HOOK are backstage. Joe says he wouldn’t call what’s happening a mentorship. He’s interrupted by The Premier Athletes; Nese mocks HOOK for eating chips, and HOOK mocks him for losing all his matches. Nese and company try to instigate a fight and bait HOOK, but Joe teaches him restraint and calms him down, reminding him they’ll take care of things on their own time.

Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith are backstage. Jericho runs into Daddy Magic and Cool Hand Ang and loudly tells them how great their lives are now, thanks to being under The Learning Tree.

The Acclaimed come out for a segment, and Max Caster starts talking smack on The Young Bucks, so they appear on the Tron and cut their segment in arguably their best move as EVPs yet.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana are backstage. Strickland addresses MJF’s comments from earlier and says he’ll handle him later. Strickland talks about his match with Roderick Strong later on tonight and says he’s still thinking about The Elite and how they won at Double or Nothing. Swerve says the next time Team AEW gets together to take on The Elite, they need to include the AEW World Champion.

A video segment airs hyping the match between Mercedes Moné and Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door.

AEW vs. CMLL on Dynamite

Blackpool Combat Club defeated Esfinge, Magnus, Rugido, and Volador Jr. from CMLL

  • Wheeler Yuta gets the Seatbelt on Rugido to score the pinfall victory for his team.

A video package plays for Daniel Garcia regarding a potential future match against Will Ospreay for the International Championship.

The Acclaimed try to get into The Elite’s locker room, but Matthew and Nicholas are surrounded by security. Acclaimed tells The Bucks that they will eventually get their hands on him, and they aren’t gonna like it.

Christian Cage and the Patriarchy confront Matthew and Nicholas Jackson backstage after the commercial. Cage says he was screwed at Double or Nothing and wants another shot at the AEW World Championship. Matthew says Tony Khan and Christopher Daniels have been overruling their decisions recently, but they’ll see what they can do. The partnership between the two sides will continue for now.

Saraya (w/ Harley Cameron and Zak Knight) defeated Mariah May (w/ Luther and Toni Storm)

  • Saraya locks Mariah May in a Scorpion Cross Lock to win the match via submission.

Toni Storm hits the ring to try and protect Mariah May but is attacked by Saraya and Harley Cameron. Mina Shirakawa hits the ring to make the save, and Toni Storm gets jealous. May tries to ease the tension by hugging them both, but there are clearly issues there.

Chris Jericho and company run into Private Party and he invites them on TV Time next week. Isiah Kassidy mocks him after he walks away.

Bryan Danielson wants to turn his year around

Bryan Danielson is backstage and says it’s a blessing to have Wheeler Yuta back and scoring the win for his team tonight. Danielson reminds everyone that this is his last full-time year as a pro wrestler. Danielson admits it hasn’t been what he wanted and runs down his shortcomings.

Bryan Danielson enters himself into the Owen Hart Cup Tournament as he wants to challenge for the AEW World Championship at All In and go out on top as his last full-time year as a pro wrestler.

Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) defeated Roderick Strong (w/ Undisputed Kingdom) to retain the AEW World Championship

  • Swerve Strickland hits Roderick Strong with a House Call to score the pinfall victory.

Strickland and Nana celebrate as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
