John Cena Set To Host Discovery Channel Shark Week 2024

John Cena is not resting after his WrestleMania 40 appearances.

The former WWE Champion has had a busy 2024 so far. March saw the release of comedy movie Ricky Stanicky, of which he starred in. That was before he appeared at WrestleMania 40 to help Cody Rhodes in the main event.

He squared up against Solo Sikoa and The Rock. His interference helped Rhodes beat Roman Reigns to become the new WWE Champion. He faces an even tougher test later this year, as he takes on an entire week of sharks for Warner Bros. Discovery.

In the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront Presentation, the media company announced that John Cena would be the host of Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” programs in 2024. Shark Week has been a fixture of the channel since 1988. It has had a number of celebrity hosts for the program, of which Cena is the latest in a long line.

Cena joins celebs including Shaquille O’Neal, Jason Momoa and even The Rock in presenting the iconic weekend of programming. It will feature numerous shark-based shows, including “Monster Hammerhead: Species X” and “Belly of the Best: Part 2”.

The news was broken by Variety, who wrote on their website:

“The Cena-hosted Shark Week will include Part 2 of “Belly of the Beast,” which gives a real look at a great white shark feeding frenzy. Other programs airing during the celebration include “Monster Hammerhead: Species X” about a potential new hammerhead species and “Great White Serial Killer: Sea of Blood,” which follows a great white terrorizing a local village.”

John Cena: I’ll Retire By The Time I’m 50

While his film and TV is hitting its peak, John Cena’s WWE career is coming to an end

Cena spoke about his in-ring future on The Pat McAfee Show. He revealed that his “line in the sand” for his career is when he turns 50, which does not leave the 47-year-old much more time to compete.

“[WWE WrestleMania 40] wasn’t my last night, so this doesn’t mean this is my last uniform. That means that, I’ve speculated a lot about when it is that I hang up the jorts, but it wasn’t last night, and I still got a little bit of rubber left on the tires.”

“It’s not tough because of the foundation I laid and the promise I made to each and every person who pays attention and gives themselves to WWE. When I feel I can no longer perform at the capacity of the product, it is time to step away. That’s not tough. The toughest thing is that I love it so much. [Co-host notes he fan still go at a high level] When that time is gone, that means that it’s done. I’m actively trying to craft that path right now, so I’ve put a line in the sand for myself for 50, and I honestly think it’s gonna be before that. I’ll be 47 in a few weeks. [McAfee says there’s still time] You got about 1,000 days.”
