Cody Rhodes‘ road to finishing the story just got more complicated, as his title match will be a Bloodline Rules match.
The Rock returned to the ring at WWE WrestleMania 40 Night One, as he and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns faced Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. This marked The Rock’s first proper match since WrestleMania 29 in 2013; he had an eight-second squash match at WrestleMania 32.
The Rock had a special entrance to match the big-time occasion.
Rollins and Reigns clashed early on. The Rock tagged in and overpowered Rollins. Cody tagged in and squared off with The Rock. Rollins and Rhodes double-teamed The Rock and took control. The match broke down as the two teams broke down into individual brawls. The Rock told the referee that he could get fired, and he didn’t “f*ck around.” The competitors fought up onto the stage and into the crowd.
Later in the match, Rhodes charged the ring and slapped The Rock. Rollins then rallied and hit The Rock with a Stomp. Cody tagged in and cleared house with a flurry of offense. Reigns fired back with a Superman Punch. Rhodes and Rollins took control with a double-team move on Reigns. Cody then hit Reigns with the Crossrhodes, but The Rock pulled the referee out of the ring. Reigns hit Rhodes below the belt, and he got a near-fall with a Spear.
Reigns trapped Rhodes in the guillotine, but Rollins broke it up with a Stomp. The Rock then took a weight belt with Rhodes’ blood on it and talked some trash to Cody’s mom in the front row. The Rock dropped Rhodes with a Spinebuster. Cody answered with a Cody Cutter. Reigns later dropped The Rock with an accidental Spear as Cody moved out of the way, but he and Reigns kicked out of stereo Pedigrees.
Cody then took The Rock down with a Rock Bottom through a barricade, just as Reigns sent Rollins through a barricade with a Spear. Rhodes and Reigns got back in the ring and battled it out. Cody then hit two Crossrhodes, but The Rock whipped him with a weight belt. Reigns hit Rhodes with a Spear. The Rock tagged in and hit the Rock Bottom. He clinched the win with The People’s Elbow.
As a result of the win, Reigns’ match against Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 Night Two will be a Bloodline Rules match.
