The IIconics have revealed which look from their career didn’t quite go as planned.
The pair went through a number of looks in their WWE careers. This included looks inspired by The Rock and Eddie Guerrero for their match at WrestleMania 35.
However, Cassie Lee and Jess McKay revealed that a Britney Spears-inspired look in Impact Wrestling didn’t hit as they expected.
Speaking with McKenzie Mitchell on Threads, the IIconics were asked which gear they had made that didn’t quite hit the mark. The pair immediately pulled out a pair of Spears-inspired pieces, explaining why they didn’t nail the look the pop star made famous in the early noughties.
Jessie McKay said: “We were going for Britney Spears’ VMA appearance, where it was the beige, kind of looked like she was nude, but sparkling. She had low-rise pants with a sparkly bra top. Very iconic, very Britney.”
“And we really wanted to recreate that for our debut at Impact. When we got the gear, we put it on and thought, ‘maybe it’ll look different on TV’, which is often the case, as the colors look differently. It just fell a little bit flat.”
The IIconics Explained How Being A ‘Pants Wrestler’ Is Why The Gear Didn’t Work
In the same interview, the IIconics spoke about how the outfit having pants, rather than shorts, was a big reason why the look didn’t work.
Cassie Lee admitted to loving the top. However, the issues with wrestling in long tights proved too much to save the look.
“I just think the top is so beautiful because it is bedazzled. The top is perfect, but the pants! Sometimes, it’s hard with pants, especially if you’re not normally a ‘pants wrestler’, they’re hard.”
“We don’t like elastic in the waistline because you get a muffin top. There’s nothing you can do about it. But then, if you don’t have it, they just fall down, so you get this baggy crotch. Then you’ve got to make it high at the back so that if it does fall down, you don’t get butt crack.”
“This is like, we’re trying to find our skin tone, but then we get a spray tan!”
Billie McKay then added: “If you look at the Britney picture and then look at our gear, there’s just a disconnect.”, before Lee said, finally: “How many gears have we had made? I feel like this is the only one that did not hit. I still love the top. If these were shorts, I’m sure I’d feel differently.”
