Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Matt Cardona has been one of the most promising stars outside the Stamford-based promotion. Recently, he shared a story about his trip to Australia for a wrestling show.
Recently Cardona revealed that he needed someone new to watch his back during a trip to Australia as his ‘Elizabeth’, Chelsea Green was stuck in New York. It was in the Island Continent that he found former WWE Superstar Steph De Lander to help him out.
The event that he took part in was Day One of WSW’s Unleash Hell event. Cardona and Brian Myers teamed up to take on Matt Basso and Erick Redbeard.
The self-proclaimed Indie God took to Twitter to share the story of his match that he had back in Australia.
“In March, I went to Australia for @WSWWrestlingAUS. Not only did I win the WSW World Championship, but I found @stephdelander. With @ImChelseaGreen back in New York, I needed someone new to watch my back. Chelsea was my Elizabeth, I needed my Sherri. I saw Steph in Australia…6 feet tall, face piercings, jacked, I knew she was the one. I asked her if she wanted to tour the world with me and be my heater. (Of course I called my wife for permission first) She said yes…and we’ve been conquering the entire Independent Wrestling scene ever since! 2023 was one of the best years of my career. My Chyna, my Sherri, my Luna
Matt Cardona spoke with WrestleZone‘s Bill Pritchard about his dynamic with Steph De Lander. Last year, he found himself without Chelsea Green, who returned to WWE, and Brian Myers re-signed with IMPACT Wrestling. Pritchard noted how that trio was reminiscent of ECW’s Impact Players or Triple Threat. Cardona said she’s Chyna, Sherri, and Luna all wrapped into one, and that’s how he pitched the pairing.
“I would consider her, and this is how I kind of pitched it to her; I want her to be like my — I don’t want to say Chyna, right? There’s only one Chyna,” Matt Cardona said. “But like my Chyna, my Sherri, my Luna, all wrapped up in one. Because Steph and I, she could be my heater, my manager, if you will, my valet.
“But then we could have mixed tag team matches, or we’ve had tag team matches against two other men because she can kick some f**king ass. So, we have this dynamic that works in so many different situations. I think that’s why not only has it been fun, but it’s been successful, and there’s no denying that it’s been successful. I mean, you just said it.”
