The Undertaker reflects on not enjoying the jacket given to him to express his patriotism ahead of joining the All-Americans team in 1993’s WWE Survivor Series.
When Undertaker took the place of Tatanka in the 1993 WWE Survivor Series, it was revealed by having him display a colonial American flag in the lining of his trench coat.
It has often been said that The Undertaker was not a fan of this reveal and now he’s talking about not having the gumption to tell Vince McMahon “no.”
“In retrospect, now, I’m very proud of that run as The American Badass,” said Calaway to Sports Illustrated. “At the time, in 1993, adding the flag was not Undertaker-esque.
“I remember me and Vince going back and forth. It was one of those first things we really butted heads over. I still remember Vince trying to sell me, saying, ‘Well, it’s the Betsy Ross flag.’ I was thinking, ‘Well, OK? Is that supposed to change everything?’”
“That just wasn’t The Undertaker back then,” said Calaway. “I just didn’t have the juice to say no.”
