Orange Cassidy opens up about his connection with the fans.
Prior to his AEW International Championship defense at AEW Full Gear, Orange Cassidy sat down with Phil Strum of Under The Ring to discuss his AEW career. During their conversation, Cassidy reflected on having children dress up as him.
“Yeah, absolutely. That’s the goal,” Cassidy said regarding his strong connection with fans of all ages. “Having little kids dress up as you — I know it’s easy. You put some jeans on, you get a jacket, some sunglasses and shirt. That’s great. Whatever the internet says, I look out into the crowd and see what’s going on. It’s the goal, and I just want to keep raising the goal and the bar. I want everybody to wear sunglasses in the arena at one point.”
Woah Jane you’re playin’ a game
Cassidy was also asked about how he landed “Jane” by Jefferson Starship as his theme song in AEW after previously using “Where Is My Mind?” by Pixies.
“Way before AEW, it was the song of choice for me because I saw a movie called White Hot American Summer and I loved it,” Cassidy recalled. “It opened up the movie and it was just awesome, I never heard it before. I was like, ‘I’ve gotta walk out to that.’ And then it was the way it was and I had it for years and years and obviously couldn’t get the rights, so that’s why The Pixies came in, which is also a phenomenal song.
“But then Jefferson Starship came back and said, ‘Yeah, we’ll do it,’ because they saw the publicity and stuff it was getting. Yeah, it’s kind of crazy every now and then when I’m about to walk out and I hear it because it’s just part of my routine now. It’s nice.”
Cassidy will defend against Jon Moxley this Saturday in Los Angeles at Full Gear. WrestleZone will have complete coverage of the event as it airs.
