While her WWE Royal Rumble stint didn’t go exactly how she envisioned it, Melina is grateful for the opportunity to compete in the match.
The 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble may widely be remembered for its eventual winner, Ronda Rousey, but many fans also recall fond memories in seeing several WWE legends return as well. One of those legends was former WWE Women’s Champion Melina, who last wrestled for the company in 2011.
During a recent appearance on Ring The Belle, Melina explained the whirlwind of emotions she experienced after she was asked to compete in the match.
Bucket List
“Oh, my goodness. When they told me, I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ And they were so sweet about it. I said, ‘Thank you. Thank you very much,’ because I wanted to knock it off the bucket list. I’ve never been a part of the Rumble. That’s something that happened after my era. I honestly thought I would never see the day that the wrestling company would give women that opportunity. So, to be able to witness it is one thing, but to be a part of it [is another thing].”
“I didn’t get to do the whole [thing with] what I grew up with, when you do the whole run in, slide, hit your specialty moves, your signature moves. Then you’re fire up and then get creamed. I didn’t get to do what I saw growing up. But still, this was a special moment, unique to me. Kinda funny in the way they kind of took away the whole entire match that Sasha [Banks] and I had. But at the same time, [it] made me laugh because I was like, ‘You know what? That’s my luck. Of course, that’s going to happen to me,'” Melina said, noting her quick elimination from the match.
