Triple H was caught by surprise when Brock Lesnar shook Cody Rhodes‘ hand at WWE SummerSlam.
Rhodes defeated Lesnar in a hard-fought match at WWE SummerSlam. In doing so, he scored the win in their rubber match, as he previously faced Lesnar at WWE Backlash and Night of Champions. After the bell, Lesnar shook Rhodes’ hand, hugged him, and raised his arm.
During the WWE SummerSlam Press Conference, Triple H brought up the post-match moment between the two stars. He stated that it was completely unplanned. He then noted that it was a “holy sh–” moment for him.
“I heard Cody say he hadn’t digested or had enough time to really digest the Brock Lesnar moment after their match,” Triple H said. “Completely unplanned. Completely in the moment. For me, Brock Lesnar is such a unique athlete, human being, all those things. But he really, I don’t believe, gets the credit he should, for being one of the all-time greats at this. Unbelievable athlete at the highest of levels. UFC, at the highest of levels.
“You can make the argument, greatest combat athlete of all time. But just talking about sports entertainment, just this, my opinion, one of the greatest of all time. Because his style is different, because the way he does it is different from anybody else. Truly, really is a generational talent for this. Name the amount of people that Brock Lesnar has gotten up after going through a match like that, shook their hand, and pulled them into hug them before walking out. I know Brock, I work with him all the time. That was a holy sh— moment for me.”
Triple H On Cody Rhodes’ Journey
Triple H continued by noting that the magnitude of Lesnar shaking Rhodes’ hand spoke to where Rhodes is now and the journey he has been on since WrestleMania 39.
“So when Cody realizes what happens, that’s a moment,” Triple H said. “If that doesn’t state to you where Cody is at, where this journey has taken him, where this journey has taken him from what many people questioned at WrestleMania to where he is right now, that rise just continues to be phenomenal. He delivers at all turns, so it’s awesome.”
