Two years after announcing her retirement, Sadie Gibbs has revealed she will soon return to professional wrestling.
Upon her retirement in 2021, Gibbs said she’d be pivoting her focus to some new endeavors, such as short films and a self-development book. Gibbs last match took place in October 2019 as she and Allie (The Bunny) defeated Big Swole and Mercedes Martinez on AEW Dark. AEW later released Gibbs in August 2020 due to the travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Sadie Gibbs spent some time away from the ring, it appears that the wrestling itch returned at some point. In a new Instagram post, Gibbs shared a lengthy life update, which includes an upcoming documentary that will detail her return to the wrestling world.
“SO IT HAS BEEN FAR TO LONG!” Gibbs wrote. “But I can’t get this chapter of my life, out my heart! I will be doing a documentary on my RETURN (yup I said it my RETURN) with @envigormedia.”
Gibbs revealed she endured a few health complications these last two years, including an inactive tumor (known as a dermoid) and endometriosis. Doctors later removed them both. Side effects of those health issues started to arise in Gibbs’ early AEW days, but luckily with time, she healed.
“Basically LIFE Happens!” she continued. “And TIME is needed where HEALING can occur my journey in wrestling all happened so fast it was one hell of a rollercoaster including my first ever major family loss (as many know about) then being signed one week prior to the funeral a year later planning my move to the STATES all packed ready to leave & we hit our first national lockdown ‘it’s fine be over in a few months.'”
“6 months later no change and my release took place from @aew a contract I gave my heart and soul to gain! But if I’m being honest I wasn’t ready for it, but that’s another thing are we ever truly ready for what life throws at us? No we level up and grow despite what healing needed to take place in between we suck it up and know how blessed we are to have the opportunity.”
Gibbs later admitted that she’d been toying with the idea of returning to wrestling for a while, but shut it out to focus on a new journey instead. Gibbs eventually circled back it, though, and is now ready to let the hard work begin again.
The date for Gibbs’ official in-ring return has yet to be confirmed.
