William Regal seemingly said goodbye on the December 7 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Earlier in the day, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that Regal would be leaving the company at the end of the year. On December 4, PWInsider reported that Regal was finalizing a deal to return to WWE in the new year.
On Wednesday night, Regal’s stablemates in the Blackpool Combat Club, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli, defeated Jake Hager and Daniel Garcia. After the match, Tony Schiavone played footage of an interview with Regal that was taped two weeks ago. In it, he explained why he helped MJF beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear. He stated that Moxley, Bryan Danielson, and Claudio Castagnoli didn’t need him anymore, and they could help Yuta become a great wrestler, even without him.
Regal also said that the group wouldn’t have let him go, which is why he aided MJF at the pay-per-view. But he teased that his actions would have consequences for MJF, as he noted that everyone in the company will be coming for the championship now. Regal then stated that this final lesson was meant to teach his stablemates how to stay a step ahead of everyone before he made it clear that he will be Blackpool Combat Club for life. Finally, Regal said “it’s been emotional” in an apparent farewell.
