Nyla Rose is cool with meeting fans outside of events as long as they are respectful… even if it’s while you’re doing something as ordinary as buying toiletries at Walmart.
All Elite Wrestling’s Nyla Rose stopped by The Team 980 AM to promote AEW’s Dynamite taping in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Nyla is a star on the rise in the wrestling world, and she was asked how fans greet her on the street or how often she gets recognized. Nyla said she goes incognito during her time off, but sometimes she’ll get spotted and it can end with some hilarious results.
“No, it’s great because I wear glasses, so I do the ‘Clark Kent’. I just throw these on and put a curl in the front of face, nobody knows it’s me. It’s kinda wild because I’m not used to it and I guess I’m still getting used to it. I get the occasional, somebody recognizes you and they’re staring at you, I’m like, ‘Oh God…’ fight or flight. Am I going to have to fight this person? Do you want an autograph or a fist in the face? Because I don’t know what’s going on right now.
“I recall a time I took my mom to Walmart to pick up some stuff and some guy like lost his mind. He’s like shocked,” she explained, “He sees me and he goes, ‘What are you doing here?!?’ I’m like, ‘I need toilet paper…’ The same thing you’re doing here, shopping. Like I don’t know [what to say].” [laughs]
“All I ask is that you’re respectful about it,” Nyla added. “If we’re with our families or we’re feeding or kids, it’s a different ballgame. But for sure, come say hi.”
Nyla was then asked about AEW and pro wrestling being more inclusive, and if she feels like it’s because society is there, or is it because of the culture Tony Khan has cultivated.
“I think it’s both. It’s Tony Khan’s product at the end of the day and it’s his wrestling company. If he didn’t want it on TV, he wouldn’t put it there. He uses us and trusts us, but he doesn’t see those sort of things, just these superfluous details about the people that work for him. He looks at the skill and the talent,” Nyla stated. “And that’s his measuring stick above anything else.”
