Nyla Rose is ready for Battle.
Nyla Rose appeared on the Battleground podcast to promote her AEW Women’s World Championship match against Thunder Rosa at AEW Battle of the Belts II on April 16. Nyla spoke about her first AEW Women’s World Championship reign and why she’s hoping to add herself (and Thunder Rosa) to the record books.
“I low-key feel a little guilty. You probably should have had Thunder here to explain what it’s like to hold the record for the shortest title reign. So it’s gonna be an important one. You know, no secret, I was one of the first few women’s champions in AEW. My title reign wasn’t as dominant as it probably could have been due to circumstances in the world. Pandemic, world shut down, we had to pivot, do some things, shift, juggle. And we found our place in the pandemic era of wrestling. Hikaru Shida, fantastic champion, wonderful opponent, I love getting in the ring with her,” Nyla explained. “I feel she elevates me and brings out a different side of me. And to that degree, the same with Thunder Rosa.”
Nyla Rose went on to explain that she feels like her match with Thunder Rosa is a bit of a full-circle moment, noting how she beat the current champion in the semifinals of the Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament. She also said her first title reign was an honor but she’s looking forward to being the first two-time women’s champion in AEW, noting that it’s a nice “feather in the cap.”

Nyla continued to speak about the mental game with Thunder Rosa and how she’s game-planning for their match at Battle of the Belts, explaining that she’s already in the champion’s head.
“Shake her to the core. Shake her to the core. The first branch of offense is that mental game. Bringing up that fact in a couple of promos that we’ve seen on television. Already planting the seeds, it’s already back there. She can deny it all she wants. Those things get in our heads, they snowball, have that snowball effect. So now she’s thinking about that,” Nyla explained, “she’s worried about that. She may say she’s not, but I guarantee you she is, it’s the things that we all worry about.”
While her in-ring career is still booming, Nyla said she wants to be involved with wrestling for the foreseeable future, including after she retires from in-ring competition.
“I’ve got the sickness, I’ve got the wrestling sickness, I’m down with the sickness. I don’t wanna go anywhere, honestly. I would love to be a part of this industry until my last breath. After I can do longer be in the ring, I would love to kind of be someone else’s Vickie. I would love to take on that role and just kinda still be involved and then maybe dual duties, work backstage as a producer,” she noted, “just some kind of way to constantly be in touch with this industry and be in touch with AEW. I would love to just work here for the rest of my life.”
