Dave Meltzer is reporting some sad news regarding Japanese wrestling legend Genichiro Tenryu after the icon had a stroke.
According to Meltzer in his latest Observer Newsletter, Tenryu is suffering from the effects of cerebellar infarcation once he suffered a stroke. A cerebellar infarction interferes with motor skills and balance due to reduced oxygen to the brain. These are dangerous than most strokes and have a 23 percent chance of death. Tenryu’s company, The Tenryu Project, reported the news on Monday that the legend has been hospitalized a few times since April after initially not feeling well. He is currently out of the hospital.
Tenryu reportedly wanted the announcement to be made of his condition in hopes to raise awareness and give hopes to others going through similar troubles.
Tenryu started off his athletic career at the young age of 13 in the sport of sumo before making his pro wrestling debut with All Japan Wrestling in 1976 in which he exploded as a superstar, becoming the Tokyo Sports MVP in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1993. He wrestling well into his 50s and had his final match against Kazuchika Okada on November 15, 2015 in what was billed as a battle of generations.
We hear at WrestleZone would like to send all our prayers and best wishes to Tenryu and all his family and friends.
