THE LUCHA BROTHERS
Pentagon, Jr., first arrived in Impact to limited fanfare — largely because he lacked much of the mystique which makes him so appealing as Lucha Underground champion. Without the extensive supernatural elements and amazingly detailed backstory of that promotion, could Pentagon become more than just another masked wrestler with a wildly popular catchphrase?
The answer, quite obviously, is yes. Now a former Impact World champion — a move which wisely cemented him in audiences’ minds as a grappler capable of competing at the highest levels — Pentagon is proving an audience favorite in spite of his inability to cut English-language promos. Add brother Rey Fenix, arguably the best high-flyer in the industry today, and it is a winning combination.
The Lucha Brothers are not only thrilling to watch, their recent work with OvE and Sami Callihan has told an unbelievably entertaining, violent story rich with a history not reliant on the mysticism of Lucha Underground. Instead, the crux has been historic elements of Lucha Libre — including a Mask vs. Hair match, a staple in Mexican wrestling for generations.
Whether as a team or solo, The Lucha Brothers are a threat to every belt in Impact. As a result, fans must keep a close eye on one or both to see what is next.
