The Latest on Rey Mysterio’s GFW Contract Negotiations

As noted, both WWE and GFW are interested in signing former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio, once Mysterio’s contract with Lucha Underground expires.

Mysterio was in Nashville this week, as seen in photos posted on social media by the likes of WWE star R-Truth and GFW’s Karen Jarrett. WWE taped Raw this week in Nashville, so Mysterio hung out with several WWE talents after the show.

However, Mysterio was in the city to meet with Konnan and GFW officials, and according to PWInsider.com, Mysterio “has a contract offer in his hands” from GFW. As noted, Mysterio remains under contract with Lucha Underground until season three, which begins airing in September. After that, Mysterio will have a 90 day no compete clause with the company.

More Backstage Details on Why WWE Pulled Talking Smack as a Weekly Series

Last week WWE announced the company will no longer be airing Talking Smack on a weekly basis, however the show will continue to air after Smackdown brand PPV events. The next edition of Talking Smack will air this Sunday after WWE Battleground.

Following the announcement of the show’s schedule change, it was reported that the decision was made by Vince McMahon himself as he was unhappy with the unscripted nature of the show and felt it was not in the company’s best interests. WWE issued a statement, however, indicating that low viewership of the show was the reason why it was pulled from its Tuesday night time slot.

WZ has learned that another reason why WWE decided to pull Taking Smack as a weekly series was due to cost in addition to low viewership. Sources note the show required its own production truck to produce live on a weekly basis, so the more expensive cost of the truck and show production, coupled with the fact that the show did not have strong viewership on the WWE Network, lead to its removal from the Tuesday night lineup.
