Rey Mysterio may be done with the likes of WWE RAW, but he’s got a new title shot to tide him over following a surprise move to WWE SmackDown.
During the October 14, 2022 episode of WWE SmackDown, Mysterio appeared backstage with Triple H and said that he was planning on quitting WWE following the ongoing feud with his son, Dominik. However, later in the night, Mysterio appeared in the ring, replacing Karrion Kross — who was seen in a car accident earlier in the show — in a Fatal 4-Way Match for a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

During the match, the SmackDown broadcast also revealed that Mysterio had agreed to a move to WWE SmackDown, avoiding his retirement and putting him on a different broadcast than his son.
In a bout against Solo Sikoa, Sheamus, and Ricochet, it was Mysterio that would walk out the winner. Late in the match, Sami Zayn and Jey Uso, as well as Butch and Ridge Holland, kickstarted a massive brawl outside of the ring. Sikoa ended up joining the fight to help out the members of The Bloodline, leaving just Mysterio and Ricochet in the ring.

After Ricochet stopped a 619 attempt, Mysterio was able to counter a move from him to drop him, and then hit a Frog Splash for the win.
