WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently spoke to Billi Bhatti of the Dirty Sheets podcast. Jake had some very interesting comments about the current WWE product. You can listen to the full interview in the video players below.
Jake the Snake Roberts debuted in the WWF in 1985 and went onto to become one of the most well known names in the history of the industry. He’s was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame 2014, after successfully overcoming multiple demons. Jake credits DDP and his DDP yoga for helping him turn his life around.
Jake was initially complementary of the WWE, crediting them for helping him to put bread on his table, after a conversation about the WWE Network where I pointed out that even my 6 year old son was a fan of Jake the Snake Roberts.
However, as things progressed Jake became more critical of the product, namely the current in-ring product. Jake said the wrestlers were killing their credibility, singling out Triple H for using a sledgehammer and guys the size of Shawn Michaels being portrayed as tough guys, who don’t sell very well.
Jake summarised that by over doing things and by becoming too much like Japanese wrestling, the WWE had become “tainted” and “senseless.” He was also critical of the booking, namely Roman Reigns, stating, “it’s not that hard to book a babyface guys.”
What’s next?
Jake spoke about his wrestling fantasy camps, speaking tours and his wrestling school. He also mentioned that he had a book coming out soon, which is sure to be a must read.
Author’s Take
Jake did not hold back in this interview. Making it must listen audio. Jake came across as a guy who knows what he’s talking about and is frustrated that the company isn’t utilising him. Perhaps Jake felt like his Hall of Fame induction would be accompanied by an invitation back into the company, but it has yet to materialise. Seeing the current product, it’s clear that the WWE does employ far less creative minds than Jake Roberts. The WWE would be wise to use his wisdom and at least invite him down to the NXT performance Center to help out. He is after all, one of the greatest promos in the history of the business.
