As noted, the family of the late Matt Osborne, known most famously for playing the original Doink the Clown character in WWE in the 1990’s, has filed a lawsuit against WWE, alleging brain injuries and other health issues. The suit states the injuries suffered by Osborne while he was working for WWE led to his death in June of 2013.
Updating the situation, TMZ is now reporting Osborne’s mother claims her son suffered these injuries, including serious brain injuries in the ring that led to his death, and claims WWE ignored the problem.
Osborne actually died from a drug overdose, but the lawsuit claims his drug addiction was a result of years of concussions he sustained while wrestling. Osborne’s mother says the WWE knew about the dangers of the brain injuries and concussions that has plagued WWE wrestlers for years, and they could have helped her son and other wrestlers. She then claims (in the suit) that Vince McMahon turned a blind eye to the situation, eventhough the WWE Wellness Program creates a false sense of security of helping people.
A lawyer for the WWE has said the suit has no merit, and says Osborne’s family is trying to get rich like similar NFL concussion suits, and they are being targeted because the lawyers promise thousands of dollars in return.
