John Cena Reacts to Fans Hating That He Still Loves Vince McMahon

John Cena has addressed fan backlash over his continued support for Vince McMahon. The former WWE Champion offered a measured response during a May 2025 interview while acknowledging the controversy surrounding the former executive.

Speaking at the Amazon Upfronts on May 12 (via Us Weekly), Cena made it clear that public opinion hasn’t shifted his stance — but he stopped short of ignoring the reaction entirely.

Cena emphasized that differing viewpoints are part of the equation, stating, “Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. Just like I’m entitled to have an emotional connection to somebody.” He added that he doesn’t judge how others feel, noting that those reactions are “their right as a human being.”

The response comes after Cena’s earlier comments in an April 18 New York Times profile. He openly declared, “I don’t care who hears it: I love Vince.” The Hollywood star clarified that his feelings don’t dismiss ongoing allegations. He added, “I’m not downplaying anything that needs to be decided or allegations of any kind, but when I love somebody, I love them wholeheartedly.”

Cena also acknowledged the expected backlash, saying, “I know people are going to be angry about that, but they can’t put their value on my relationship with somebody I love.” If loyalty were a finishing move, Cena isn’t tapping out — he’s standing firm in the ring of public opinion.

McMahon’s situation remains under scrutiny following multiple allegations. These include claims of sexual misconduct and trafficking outlined in a January 2024 lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant. A spokesperson for McMahon denied the claims, stating the lawsuit contains “lies” and “distortions.”

Despite the controversy, Cena has maintained a distinction between personal loyalty and accountability. He acknowledged that McMahon must answer to the allegations while also affirming his own emotional connection.

Now serving as a WWE ambassador through 2030 after retiring from in-ring competition in 2025, Cena continues to represent the company publicly, including hosting WrestleMania 42. While McMahon is no longer part of WWE operations, Cena’s comments show that some ties — much like a classic rivalry — don’t end cleanly.
