This former AEW star has come to CM Punk’s defense amid recent steroid allegations.
CM Punk may never have fit Vince McMahon’s traditional mold of a WWE Superstar, but his charisma and in-ring ability helped him cement his status as the “Best in the World.”
At 47, Punk may not be as athletically explosive as he once was, but he remains in excellent shape. The Straight Edge Superstar recently showcased his endurance by going over 30 minutes with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.
Punk’s physique has also been a talking point online, especially as he regularly shares gym photos on social media. However, those posts have attracted criticism, including accusations of steroid use. Responding to one such claim, former AEW star Cezar Bononi pushed back strongly.
Former AEW star calls out CM Punk critics
Calling the accusation “the most absurd thing,” Bononi criticized how quickly people jump to conclusions whenever they see physical changes. He praised Punk’s work ethic and gave credit to respected coach Jay Ferruggia, stating that Punk’s current physique is “very, very achievable naturally” and shows “zero indications of any steroids.”
Bononi also took issue with the confidence behind such claims, questioning how anyone could make those statements without real evidence. “Did you have access to his bloodwork?” he asked, highlighting the lack of proof behind such accusations.
While addressing the broader mindset, Bononi suggested that people often try to diminish others’ achievements when they see something they cannot replicate. Even in hypothetical scenarios, he noted that results still require effort, adding that “he still had to put the work in on this.”
He concluded by urging fans not to default to steroid accusations, emphasizing that “you don’t have to take steroids” to achieve an impressive physique. Instead, he encouraged people to accept that others can reach high levels of fitness naturally rather than tearing them down.
