The April 13, 2026, episode of WWE RAW had one of the most layered and honest segments of recent times. Roman Reigns finally revealed why he has such a strong issue with CM Punk.
The show started with a video promo from the Royal Rumble winner. In the video, he criticized Punk, calling him a “liar.” The video showed clips of CM Punk’s past statements to point out how contradictory Punk’s actions are compared to his past actions.
At the end of the video, Roman Reigns challenged Punk to speak the “truth” during the main event segment of the show.
Roman Reigns points to CM Punk’s connection with fans as the key reason
At the final segment, CM Punk came out through the crowd and delivered a very real promo. This time, he showed a more honest side and changed the tone of the rivalry completely.
He admitted that part of his hatred for Reigns comes from jealousy. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion said he envies Reigns’ family legacy and the opportunities he had. He also gave credit to Reigns for his long title run and success.
Quite surprisingly, this time, Punk actually apologized for bringing up Reigns’ late father, Sika Anoa’i.
Roman Reigns then responded and admitted that Punk was finally being real. But he also made it clear that he still doesn’t like him. Reigns revealed that the real reason he hates Punk is because of how strongly fans connect with him, something he wishes he had in the same way.
“I hate you too. I’ve hated you for a long time. But the main reason is because of your relationship with all of them (fans). You see, I hope one day I get to the point that when I leave, they miss me as much as they missed you. I hope that one day, when I leave, they chant for me for 10 years straight. All that’s true. That’s the truest thing you’ve got. It’s the connection that you’ve made with our fanbase, and nobody can ever take that away from you,” Reigns told Punk.
Even with this honest exchange, Reigns stayed confident. He said their match won’t end with Punk keeping the title, but with him winning it instead.
