One of the biggest stars in modern lucha libre is already thinking about the next step in his career. The former two-time AAA Mega Champion recently said that he hopes to join the WWE main roster soon. If that happens, it could also create opportunities for more AAA wrestlers to move to WWE.
The Lucha Libre star is none other than El Hijo del Vikingo. His comments come just days before his big match against Dominik Mysterio at Rey de Reyes 2026. The two will face each other for the AAA Mega Championship in a no-disqualification match on March 14.
The match also has special stipulations. If Vikingo wins, Mysterio must leave AAA. But if Mysterio wins, Vikingo will never be able to challenge for the title again.
El Hijo del Vikingo discusses a potential WWE main roster opportunity
In an interview with Denise Salcedo, Vikingo said his main focus is still on beating Mysterio. At the same time, he is already thinking about what comes next in his career.
“After I defeat Dominik for the championship, I will enter the main roster of WWE. We already entered the video game; now we are going to enter the main roster. Those are my short-term plans,” Vikingo said.
It shows how WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide are collaborating more after WWE acquired the promotion in 2025. Vikingo could become one of the first major AAA stars to move directly to WWE’s main shows.
When discussing potential opponents on WWE shows such as Raw or SmackDown, Vikingo mentioned several well-known lucha libre wrestlers. One name he mentioned was Penta El Zero Miedo, someone he has faced many times.
“I had a lot of matches with Penta inside of AAA, out of Mexico, and a lot of other places. I would like to face Penta, Fenix, Dragon Lee, and Rey Mysterio now being in the main roster,” he said.
Vikingo has already built a strong reputation worldwide. Besides being one of AAA’s top stars, he has also appeared in promotions like AEW and TNA.
