Tony Khan Provides Update on Samoa Joe’s AEW Return

Samoa Joe has been absent from AEW television in recent weeks, but fans may not have to wait much longer to see the former world champion back inside the ring.

During a recent media call promoting AEW Revolution, AEW President Tony Khan addressed Joe’s current status. While the veteran star remains sidelined due to injury, Khan indicated that progress is being made — and the outlook appears encouraging.

Tony Khan Says Samoa Joe Could Return to AEW “Very Soon”

Speaking with Adam Barnard of The Sportster, Khan confirmed that Joe has been recovering after suffering an injury during training earlier this year.

“Samoa Joe has been out injured. I’m optimistic that he’ll be back in AEW soon and I’m very excited for that. We’re all hopeful Samoa Joe will be on a positive track to return to AEW soon,” Khan said during the call.

Joe has been out of action since late January. On the January 28 episode of AEW Dynamite, an announcement revealed that the former AEW World Champion had suffered what was described as a “non-contact injury” during training.

His most recent match took place on the January 21 episode of Dynamite, where he defeated Mike Bailey. Since then, Joe has not appeared on AEW programming.

Reports last month suggested that the former AEW World Champion had been placed in concussion protocol. Khan did not specify the exact nature of the injury during the media call. Regardless, the company remains hopeful that the Opps member will return shortly.

Samoa Joe himself recently echoed that optimism. While speaking at the For the Love of Wrestling event, he said he expected to be back “sooner than later.”

Tony Khan also praised Joe’s legacy during the call. He described him as one of the greatest champions in professional wrestling history.

For now, no official timeline has been confirmed for Joe’s return. Still, if the recovery continues in the right direction, it sounds like fans may soon hear the familiar war drums again. When Samoa Joe walks back through that curtain, someone on the roster might be in for a very bad day.
