AEW Star Feels Like He’s Been Underutilized On TV

An AEW star feels underutilized.

Over the last month, wrestling fans have seen John Morrison regularly featured on CMLL, with his recent Hair vs. Hair match against Angel de Oro even making headlines. For Morrison, that particular match, despite it resulting in him losing his hair, made him feel incredibly fulfilled as well.

As Morrison later admitted, the same cannot be said about his home promotion, All Elite Wrestling.

“I gotta admit, the [CMLL] match did feel fantastic,” Morrison told Insight With Chris Van Vliet. “That hair match, I feel like, was one of the best matches I’ve had in years. Was the first time in a while that I felt like me again. Kind of feeling unfulfilled, basically. Not just me, a lot of people in wrestling. But for me right now, in AEW, I feel underutilized. Can’t blame anyone, that’s just how wrestling promotions work.

“There’s only enough TV time for a certain amount of people. Those people at AEW, we’ve coined the term the island. Those people are on the island, so to speak. I don’t feel like I’m on the island with Tony or AEW right now. So because of that, I feel like I’m doing like 10-20% of what I’m capable of, storytelling-wise, wrestling-wise, in the ring. With CMLL, I’m on their island, and so I got to do everything that I could, and it was cool.”

Across 2025, Morrison (as Johnny TV) wrestled a mere six times on AEW programming, one of which saw him compete in a trios match on the AEW Revolution pre-show. The remaining five AEW matches took place on Collision, all of which Morrison lost. In Ring of Honor, Morrison is a semi-regular figure, though he hasn’t wrestled since the January 22 edition of ROH on HonorClub.
