Kevin Nash Clarifies Remarks About WWE’s Je’Von Evans After Fan Backlash

Kevin Nash is trying to move past the controversy surrounding his recent comments about rising WWE star Je’Von Evans. The WWE Hall of Famer recently praised Evans’ talent and explained what he meant by his earlier remarks.

A few weeks ago, Nash reviewed Evans’ in-ring work on the show. He complimented Evans’ athletic ability and how well he sells moves. However, Nash said he felt the necessary grit and edge were missing in Evans’ character. He also said Evans sometimes seems too playful and should slow down in the ring.

The major backlash started when Nash used the term “Mr. Bojangles” to describe Evans and said he wished he were “a little bit more urban.” Many fans felt the “Mr. Bojangles” comment emerged as racially insensitive given its historical context. Social media reacted quickly. Nash posted an apology on X but later deleted it.

Even Evans seemingly responded to Nash’s comments by uploading a post on Instagram with the caption- “Just Wanna Apologize Real Quick….Im Sorry For Being The Best In Da Game Right Now!! Elimination Chamber Bout To……Ya’ll Finish The Rest” -Je’Von Evans #TheYoungOG.” Moreover, he added the song “nWo WolfPack” by The Spaceghost to the post.

Kevin Nash Says His Je’Von Evans Comments Did Not Come With Malice

Now, on the recent episode of his Kilq This podcast, Nash tried to clear things up. He said he sees huge potential in Evans and even compared him to NFL legend Randy Moss.

“Let me say this first. This Je’Von, if he was a f*cking wide receiver, he is basically a rookie Randy Moss. Like, this kid could be a generational f*cking talent,” Nash said.

Even with the praise, Nash stood by the main point of his criticism. He mentioned the February 23 episode of WWE RAW, where rapper Offset appeared at ringside during Evans’ win over Kofi Kingston. Nash said that pairing Evans with Offset supported what he was trying to say about how WWE presents him.

“I guess the thing that pisses me off is like, all I want for the guy is for him to be used in a way, like, how off was I if when they really want to showcase him, they put him with Offset? I mean, they could have put him with f*cking Reba McEntire. She’s got a name,” Nash said.

Nash also responded to fans who accused him of being racially insensitive. He expressed frustration over those claims. “Let me just say this because I want to get this out and I’m done with it. Because this is all from, at least their photographs were of blacks that follow me. This is on my X. I saw more than two dozen times, ‘We thought you were one of the good ones.’ Good ones what, motherf*cker? Good ones what?” Nash said.

According to him, his comments were about character presentation, not race. “Everything that came at me for saying something that was absolutely not in any way said with f*cking malice or with a racial f*cking undertone. It was just said more in an analogy f*cking sense,” Nash said.

Fans seem split on the situation. But Nash reiterates he truly wants to see Evans succeed at the highest level.
