Kevin Nash Apologizes For Remarks About WWE’s Je’Von Evans After Backlash

Kevin Nash has garnered a reputation for speaking his mind about wrestling. But his recent comments about rising WWE star Je’Von Evans caused enough backlash that he later apologized.

On his podcast, Kliq This, Nash talked about Evans’ in-ring skills. He praised Evans’ athleticism, his punches, and how well he sells moves. Nash even said Evans “does everything good.”

However, he felt something was missing. Nash said he would like to see Evans wrestle with more grit and edge. To him, Evans’ character feels a little too polished and not intense enough.

“He’s an incredible athlete. He’s a little bit too f*cking Mr. Bojangles for me. I wish he was a little bit more urban. I understand it’s Netflix. I understand there’s a big f*cking world out there besides the one that f*cking 66-year-old Detroit boy Kevin Nash wants, but I just want him to have a little bit of an edge,” he said.

The situation became controversial when Nash used the culturally sensitive term while describing Evans’ persona.

Kevin Nash Addresses Backlash to Comments About Je’Von Evans

After receiving severe backlash for his comments, Nash went on social media to apologize. He explained that his criticism was about creative direction, not anything personal against Evans. The WWE legend also shared that he simply disagrees with Evans’ presentation on TV. Additionally, he believes Evans could show more dynamism in his presentation.

“How often have you heard the term Uncle Tom? Most likely, it was used in a degrading way. If you’ve actually read the literature, Uncle Tom was whipped to death for helping free two female slaves. I apologize for the use of the term Mr. Bogangles, it was in poor taste and obviously offensive. I just see talent being pushed in a direction that I disagree with. He should be the male version of Sol Ruca. More contemporary than urban. It’s funny how I’m usually the only person who pays attention to the development of black talent,” Nash tweeted.

Meanwhile, since joining the main roster earlier this year, Evans has quickly become one of the most talked-about young stars. He recently won an Elimination Chamber qualifying match against Gunther and Dominik Mysterio.

At just 21 years old, Evans is the youngest member of the RAW roster. He has said earlier that he wants to become the youngest world heavyweight champion ever. Randy Orton currently holds the record after he won the title at 24.
