Kevin Nash apologized for using an offensive remark to describe WWE RAW star Je’Von Evans.
The latest episode of Nash’s Kliq This podcast saw him critiquing Evans’ work, calling him an incredible athlete. However, Nash was a source of controversy after saying Evans was “a little bit too f-cking Mr. Bojangles for me.” Nash went on to say that he wishes Evans was a bit more “urban” and a “little bit of an edge” to his on-air persona.
Nash was criticized for using the term “Mr. Bojangles,” which is considered to be a racial stereotype that references America’s controversial history with racial representation in entertainment.
Kevin Nash offered an apology on Tuesday, explaining that his comment was in poor taste, but he only hoped to communicate that he wants a more contemporary character for Evans.
How often have you heard the term Uncle Tom? Most likely, it was used in a degrading way. If you’ve actually read the literature, Uncle Tom was whipped to death for helping free two female slaves. I apologize for the use of the term Mr. Bogangles, it was in poor taste and obviously offensive. I just see talent being pushed in a direction that I disagree with. He should be the male version of Sol Ruca. More contemporary than urban. It’s funny how I’m usually the only person who pays attention to the development of black talent.
Kevin Nash deleted his apology and responded to another fan’s criticism
Nash has since deleted the apology and responded to a post by writer/comedian Kevin Fredericks, who shared an edited version of what he “should have” written.
“No worries. I won’t make the mistake of saying anything about The Young OG. I’ve read the comments, and I agree,” Nash said. “If he fails, it’s on him. Haven’t seen a comment from anyone who’s made millions in the business. I didn’t coin him an ” Original Gangster” Won’t change my life either way.”
