Major Update on AJ Styles’ WWE Contract Status

A fresh update has arrived AJ Styles’ WWE contract after he lost his retirement match to Gunther at WWE Royal Rumble 2026.

Styles had already announced that he planned to retire from professional wrestling in 2026. However, while fans knew about his retirement plans, many were shocked that his final match happened so early in the year.

At WWE Royal Rumble, Styles ended his in-ring career after Gunther put him to sleep with a sleeper hold. However, following Styles’ retirement, a major update arrived regarding his WWE contract status.

According to PWInsider.com, Styles and WWE had discussed signing a new contract. However, as Royal Rumble approached and no new deal was finalized. WWE decided to move forward with the match against Gunther as his retirement bout.

It was also reported states that both sides are still in talks about Styles’ future with the company. As of now, no new agreement has been confirmed. If Styles’ current contract expires without a renewal.

He would technically be free to hear offers from other promotions. That said, there have been no reports suggesting that he plans to return to the ring anytime soon. Styles himself has not fully closed the door on wrestling again. He said, “Never say never,” during an appearance on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon.
