Chris Jericho: Ageism Exists, But It’s Not A Death Sentence

Chris Jericho believes people should continue to reinvent themselves at all points in their careers.

Amid the speculation surrounding his potential WWE return, Chris Jericho took some time to speak with Soundsphere’s Dom Smith. He discussed his band Fozzy’s plans for 2026 and also opened up about ageism in the music and professional wrestling industries.

Chris Jericho believes ageism does exist, but it is never a barrier to achieving goals.

“It’s never too late. Ageism does exist, and you can’t worry about it,” Chris Jericho began. “Your age is your age, but you can’t worry about it, it’s not a death sentence to be in your 50s, right or your 60s and 70s, there’s still time to do things. Maybe you’re not going to have a career like The Rolling Stones, but you can still do it – write a song, record a song, audition for parts – all that stuff you can still do! The biggest detriment to success that we have is ourselves! Why not (do it)? Someone’s got to do it, so why don’t you?”

Chris Jericho believes artists should keep on reinventing themselves

Speaking further, Chris Jericho emphasized the importance of reinventing oneself to keep people excited about what they’re doing.

“Reinvention is important at any stage of your career, because you want to keep people excited and motivated about what you’re doing. The [Rolling] Stones last record, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ was great. Why wouldn’t The Stones release a new album? Because they’re artists, and that’s what artists do. Keeping things fresh and exciting is something I believe in wholeheartedly. There’s nothing wrong with having tinges, but you still want to create new things as well, so you’re not just a nostalgia act,” Chris Jericho said.

With the 2026 Royal Rumble fast approaching, new data suggests that Chris Jericho is heavily favored to make his WWE return at the event.
