CMLL Star Wants Rivalry With AEW’s MJF To Continue In The U.S.

CMLL star Mistico has shared high praise for MJF, reflecting on their intense cross-promotional rivalry.

The rivalry between Mistico and MJF became one of the one the most talked-about stories of last year, playing out on multiple stages in both AEW and CMLL. During his run in Mexico, MJF captured the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship in August 2025 by defeating Averno.

However, tensions with Mistico escalated quickly. Their feud reached its peak at the CMLL 92nd Anniversary Show, where Mistico and MJF collided in a historic Mask vs. Title match for the World Light Heavyweight Championship inside Arena Mexico.

In an interview with SI.com, Mistico reflected on the rivalry and admitted he holds a great deal of respect for the current AEW World Champion. “I admire MJF and I respect him about what he did in this rivalry that was so important for me in this year. And, I also proved to him that it is not easy to step in Arena Mexico and to be on the Anniversary show in CMLL in that historic match, Mask vs Title.”

He emphasized just how special the bout was in the context of lucha libre history. “It’s something that hasn’t happened in the history of lucha libre, and for the first time in CMLL it happene,d and I proved that it’s not easy to be in the ‘Cathedral of Lucha Libre’ against Mistico in a Mask vs. Title Match.”

Mistico ultimately emerged victorious, winning the match and becoming the new CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion. Despite that, he made it clear the story between the two is far from over.

Mistico wants to continue his rivalry with AEW star MJF

“For sure I took the victory and I became the new CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion, but this is a rivalry that I want to continue to not only happen in Mexico. I want this rivalry to happen in the United States. With the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship.”

He noted that he has already defended the title internationally. “I had some defenses in the UK against Michael Oku. A few weeks ago against Soberano Jr. (in Mexico). So I want this rivalry with MJF to continue also in the United States and also here in Mexico.”

Mistico holds two singles victories over MJF. Even with new challengers ahead, Mistico made one thing clear his rivalry with MJF is unfinished and he wants to take it to even bigger stages worldwide.
