AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash Results:
Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite immediately kicks off with Continental Classic action as Jon Moxley takes on Roderick Strong in Blue League competition.
Continental Classic Blue League: Jon Moxley vs. Roderick Strong
- The finish of the match saw Jon Moxley hit Roderick Strong with the Death Rider to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Jon Moxley
Grade: B+
Damn good way to kick off Dynamite tonight with a very hard-hitting affair. Mox and Strong stiffed the heck out of one another, and this was just an all-around entertaining matchup. Moxley has really shined in this tournament. I think taking the title off of him earlier this year was the best thing that could have happened to him.
Life advice from Eddie Kingston
Eddie Kingston is backstage. Kingston says you either win or you learn; you never lose. Kingston says he learned from the match with Samoa Joe and puts the rest of the roster on notice that they aren’t going to like to find out what he learned. Eddie says one loss isn’t going to bother him, and he wants to compete this weekend on Collision.
$1 Million Winner Takes All Trios Match: The Elite vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Hechicero, and Kazuchika Okada of the Don Callis Family
- The finish of the match saw The Elite hit Hechicero with a triple team One-Winged Angel. Kenny Omega scored the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, The Elite
After the match, Don Callis takes off with the bag of money. Okada and Takeshita hit the ring and attack The Elite. Takeshita and Okada get in another shoving battle that brings Callis back to ringside. Omega gets a broom out from underneath the ring and chases the Don Callis Family off while the referee secures the bag of money for The Elite.
Grade: A
I love seeing Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks back together. This is the way AEW is supposed to be, in my opinion. There’s been plenty of ups and downs between these three men, but when they are all on the same page, everything feels right in the world in AEW. I really loved this match!
Samoa Joe will have his hands full at Worlds End as his past comes back to haunt him
AEW Dynamite returns, and Tony Schiavone is in the ring for the Worlds End contract signing between Samoa Joe, Hangman Page, and Swerve Strickland. Schiavone brings Hangman out first, followed by Swerve Strickland, and then AEW World Champion Samoa Joe, who comes to the ring with HOOK and Powerhouse Hobbs.
It’s made clear there can be no physicality during this contract signing, or they will lose their shot at the title. Samoa Joe apologizes for bringing The Opps with him, but he just wanted to make sure that everyone was safe and no one would be triggered to do something stupid. Clearly, Joe was being sarcastic. Joe signs the contract.
Samoa Joe says he will see both of these men at Worlds End, and he will walk out AEW World Champion. Joe says he hopes both of them make it to the pay-per-view in one piece. Swerve Strickland says he came back to AEW for the championship. Strickland admits, regardless of the result at Full Gear, he’d be coming for the champion.
Swerve says that despite his history with Hangman, there is mutual respect in some way. However, they both have a mutual hate for Samoa Joe. Strickland reflects on his history with Joe and reminds him he’s the one who ended his first title reign. Swerve makes a joke about the face tattoo that Joe had in TNA. Strickland says Joe better bring an army to Worlds End because you can’t kill a god with bullets. Swerve signs the contract.
Hangman Page reflects on their past
Hangman Page says he wants to remind both of them where they were in July, not fighting each other, but fighting together to take the title away from the Death Riders. Page says that had they figured it out before Joe challenged Mox for the title, it could have easily been him as World Champion. Page says it also just as easily could have been Swerve. Hangman says it was left to him to get the job done, and he became the World Champion.
Page says he knew, as World Champion, both of them would find their way across the ring from him. Hangman says he gave Joe that opportunity at WrestleDream, and he failed against him. Page says he had to turn to others to get the job done and hopes that the legacy of Samoa Joe won’t be remembered as the piece of shit he is today.
Hangman says as World Champion, he planned on defending the championship against everyone who helped him. Page names Darby Allin, Will Ospreay, and says he knew there would come a time he would stand across the ring from Swerve. Page says Swerve came back to AEW to challenge the World Champion, and he would have expected nothing less from him. Hangman says he would have given him the match, and had Swerve won, he would have handed the title over to him, but that’s not the world that they live in.
Page admits he’s not sure who will leave Worlds End as champion, but he guarantees it won’t be Samoa Joe. Hangman says Joe made a big mistake in making an enemy of the two of them. Hangman signs the contract.
MJF has returned
The lights go out, and MJF’s music hits. The former AEW World Champion has returned. Nobody in the ring looks thrilled, but the crowd sure is. MJF is handed his Casino Gauntlet contract by Mark Sterling and signs it before handing it over to Schiavone. The match at AEW Worlds End is now a four-way match for the World Championship.
MJF says he’s sure a lot of people are wondering why a guy like him would willingly execute his contract to take on three men instead of one. Friedman says that since the inception of AEW, Page has called him a coward, but during his time away, he was festering at it, and maybe Page was right. MJF says he wants to hurt Page, and he can do it by beating him and two of his biggest rivals all in one fell swoop.
Samoa Joe tries to talk, but MJF tells him to shut his mouth. MJF says he doesn’t hate Joe anymore, but he still hates him. MJF says that when Joe took the World Championship from him, the people turned on him. Friedman says the fans dictate who goes down as an all-time great, and he doesn’t want that; he needs that. MJF says Sloppy Joe’s luck has run out.
MJF hasn’t forgotten about Worlds End 2023
Friedman says he’s about to make Samoa Joe fall back further than his hairline. MJF says the same place Joe ended his World Championship, he’s ending his. Strickland says if there is anyone in the ring MJF needs to be afraid of, it should be him. MJF says Strickland reminds him a lot of P Diddy. MJF asks whose house it is and says he knows Strickland as Shane.
Friedman says he went to AEW and became the biggest wrestler in the history of the company, and Strickland went to WWE. The crowd boos, but MJF says it’s a perfectly acceptable company, but Swerve didn’t have a good run there, and makes a joke about Top Dolla. MJF puts over what Swerve has done since coming to AEW before comparing the length of their title reigns.
MJF says they have a problem now because Swerve is in his way. Friedman says this is his house, and the rent is due, and the devil has come to collect.
Can JetSpeed reach the finals of the Continental Classic
Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight are backstage hyping up their Continental Classic matches this weekend on Collision. Bailey will be facing Jungle Jack Perry, and Knight will be facing Kazuchika Okada.
Mercedes Moné, Athena, Megan Bayne, and Marina Shafir vs. The Babes of Wrath and Timeless Love Bombs
- The finish of the match saw Athena hit Willow Nightingale with the O-Face. Mercedes Moné scored the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Mercedes Moné, Athena, Megan Bayne, and Marina Shafir
Grade: B+
This was a fun match. And it is easily setting up a rematch between the Babes of Wrath and the team of Mercedes Moné and Athena. Nightingale and Cameron knocking them out in the first round now makes even more sense than it did before. I don’t foresee a title change, but you can’t count out two of the most dominant women in wrestling right now from picking up more gold.
Continental Classic Gold League: Kyle Fletcher vs. PAC
- The finish of the match saw PAC hit Kyle Fletcher with the Black Arrow to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: PAC
Grade: A-
The first really shocking outcome of the evening. I never thought we’d see Fletcher drop two straight in the Continental Classic. It really tightens up the rankings in the Gold League. I’m still hoping for the Okada and Takeshita final, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to tease us with it and push it into 2026.
Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale
- The finish of the match saw Bandido eliminate Bishop Kaun, leaving him and Ricochet as the final two.
Winners: Bandido and Ricochet
These two men will face each other next week on Dynamite to determine the first-ever Dynamite Diamond Ring winner not named MJF.
Grade: B+
This is certainly an interesting final two. Not sure what to make of it yet. It’s going to feel weird not seeing MJF with the ring anymore. But next week, everything changes. I’m guessing this match is Ricochet’s to win, but we’ll see if I’m wrong.
The final hour of AEW Dynamite is Collision
Jon Moxley is backstage. Mox is hyping up the Continental Classic and talking about how he pushes people’s buttons and antagonises people. Moxley puts over people who have stepped up to him in recent months, like Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong. Moxley wants every to know he won’t leave any bullets left in the chamber and he’s going to give it his all.
Continental Classic Blue League: Mascara Dorada vs. Orange Cassidy
- The finish of the match saw Orange Cassidy catch Mascara Dorada with a surprise rollup to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
After the match, Cassidy gives his shades to Dorada in a show of respect.
Grade: A-
I really like both of these guys, but going in, I wasn’t entirely sure how well their styles would gel together. The answer? Pretty freaking great. I really enjoyed this matchup. And while I expected Cassidy to win, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the match one bit.
Looking for more gold
Mercedes Moné and Athena are backstage with Lexy Nair. They make it clear they are looking for a shot at the Babes of Wrath to become the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions at Worlds End. Moné says Tony Khan better make that happen. Moné says she’s going to put her British Championships on the line this weekend at Collision.
Jamie Hayter vs. Isla Dawn
- The finish of the match saw Jamie Hayter hit Isla Dawn with Hayterade to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
After the match, the Triangle of Madness attacks Hayter and whips her with a belt. This brings out Kris Statlander to even the odds, and she takes it to the Triangle of Madness. Hayter tries to assist and “accidentally” hits Statlander with Hayterade. Triangle of Madness bails as Hayter poses with the title before laying it on Stat and leaving.
Grade: B
The match was good. But it feels like it was just added to fill time. No one thought for a single second that Dawn was going to win. the aftermath was more important in regards to Worlds End than anything that took place in the match.
AEW World Tag Team Championship: FTR (c) vs. The Bang Bang Gang
- The finish of the match saw Bang Bang Gang thinking they won the titles, but Dax Harwood got his foot on the rope at the last second. This distraction allowed FTR to flip the script, and Harwood got Juice Robinson in a grapevine anklelock, forcing him to submit.
Winners: And still AEW World Tag Team Champions, FTR
Grade: A-
FTR celebrates their victory as AEW Dynamite/Collision: Holiday Bash goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash Review:
This was a damn good show from AEW tonight. The crowd in Manchester was hyped for this show, and they kept things rocking for all three hours. MJF’s big return certainly got people talking, making AEW Worlds End even bigger than it was before.
Almost all of the matches tonight really delivered, and we got an excellent main event from FTR and the Bang Bang Gang. I have no real complaints. I really enjoyed it. A very easy three-hour show to get through.
Grade: A-
