John Cena Teases Why He Smiled While Tapping Out In Final Match

John Cena might’ve explained why he smiled before tapping out to Gunther.

Gunther making John Cena tap out in his retirement match has drawn tons of criticism from fans and wrestling personalities. While WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has already explained why Cena’s final match had to be booked that way, the 17-time world champion might’ve provided his own explanation.

John Cena took to Instagram to post a picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, when he smirked before sacrificing himself by allowing Darth Vader to win their duel, so the others could escape the Death Star.

Cena also had a smile on his face when he tapped out to Gunther. Going by the Obi-Wan Kenobi analogy, it could mean that Cena, who accepted his fate, willingly sacrificed so the stars of the future can continue in his place. The Ring General also has the bragging rights of making the GOAT give up, which would add more impact to the moment when someone eventually defeats him in the future.

Bully Ray Also Made The Same Connection Between John Cena & Obi-Wan Kenobi

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray made the same analogy in a tweet, explaining why John Cena tapped out in his retirement match.

“Obi-Wan smirked/smiled just before Vader struck him down because he accepted his fate and knew in order for others to live…he must die. And thats why John tapped.”

John Cena has only tapped out five times in his entire WWE career, with Gunther being the first superstar in over two decades to make the GOAT submit.
