AEW Dynamite Results:
This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with Tony Schiavone in the ring. He brings out both AEW World Champion Samoa Joe and Eddie Kingston for their face-to-face before next week’s title match at Winter is Coming.
Samoa Joe tells Schiavone to get out of the ring before he snatches his wig off his head. Joe says it seems we have some situations to address. Joe says he knows Eddie is full of questions that need answering. Samoa Joe says HOOK is a man who has grown up with a championship legacy and has the best teacher right now, but he wanted HOOK to know what it’s like to be aligned with a man who’s never been able to cross the finish line.
Who leaves Winter is Coming as AEW World Champion?
Samoa Joe says Kingston will walk into the ring next week and fight his ass off in an attempt to capture the greatest title in this industry, but he won’t cross the finish line just like every other time. Joe says it’s not because of anything he did, but it’s because he choked him unconscious in the middle of the ring.
Eddie Kingston says he doesn’t understand how someone like Samoa Joe is talking about jets. Kingston says Joe sold his soul out hard. Kingston says HOOK learned perseverance from him. Eddie Kingston says he doesn’t know this Samoa Joe, and he isn’t someone he respects.
Kingston says the Joe he respects ran through everyone and showed the world what it meant to be a real World Champion. Kingston says Joe has become the person that he used to hate. Eddie says if Joe doesn’t bring the person who made him want to battle and keep going, he’s going to eat him alive next week. Kingston leaves as Joe stands in the ring and contemplates what he just heard.
The Opps aren’t finished tonight
HOOK, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata are backstage. HOOK says Samoa Joe is going to finish Eddie Kingston off next week. Powerhouse Hobbs says The Opps aren’t done tonight, and they are going to face Dark Order tonight. Essentially, doing so due to their past with Hangman Page and wanting to get under his skin. Hobbs says if Dark Order can beat them tonight, they’ll get a Trios Title shot.
Continental Classic Gold League: Kazuchika Okada vs. PAC
- The finish of the match saw Kazuchika Okada reverse PAC’s Brutalizer into a rollup to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Kazuchika Okada
Grade: A-
This match ruled. A great way to kick off the Continental Classic tonight. It seemed like an impossibility for Okada to go down 0-2 in the tournament, but PAC made a convincing argument at multiple points during the match that he could pull it off. This was a ton of fun!
Mark Briscoe is set to be a fighting champion
AEW TNT Champion Mark Briscoe is backstage. Briscoe says that a year ago, he and Daniel Garcia faced off twice, noting they each won a match. Briscoe says Garcia is the real deal, but a year later, things have changed. Mark says his opinion of Garcia is not what it once was and fears he’s falling into a Death Riders death spiral.
Briscoe says he came to Garcia and offered him the title shot, and he walked away. Briscoe isn’t sure if he’s playing some kind of mind games, but he doesn’t want to play any games. Mark reveals he went to Tony Khan and told him he wanted the match, and it’s set for Collision’s Winter is Coming special next weekend.
Ricochet set to compete at ROH Final Battle
The Demand are backstage. Ricochet says he’s feeling pretty good lately, but over the last couple of days, he’s had to put his phone on Do Not Disturb mode because every company all around the world is calling him, begging him to save their promotion.
Ricochet announces he will defend the AEW National Championship this Friday at Ring of Honor Final Battle against Dalton Castle. He also makes it clear he’ll be sticking around town to compete at Collision the following day as well.
Roderick Strong is in a mood
The Conglomeration and Roderick Strong are backstage with Renee Paquette. It’s announced that Orange Cassidy will face Roderick Strong this weekend on Collision in the Continental Classic. Mark Briscoe admits that things haven’t gone the Conglomeration’s way so far in the tournament, but this Saturday, someone has to leave with some points.
Roderick Strong makes it clear that he’s not a member of the Conglomeration and says he’s going to beat Orange Cassidy’s ass on Saturday and go on to win the entire tournament. Cassidy requests through Briscoe he wants Saturday’s match to be fought under Conglomeration Rules, which apparently means no chops. Strong calls Cassidy an idiot and walks away, bumping into him as he does.
It was announced that Darby Allin went to the hospital following Dynamite last week. AEW will provide an update on his status this Saturday on Collision.
Continental Classic Gold League: Kyle Fletcher vs. Kevin Knight
- The finish of the match saw Kyle Fletcher hit Kevin Knight with a sheer drop brainbuster to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Kyle Fletcher
Grade: A
Freaking awesome match. I wasn’t sure this was going to outdo what Okada and PAC did, but I think it managed to surpass it. There have been some excellent matches on tonight’s show so far. The Continental Classic always brings out the best matches on AEW programming every year, and the tradition is continuing in 2025.
Don Callis has a message for the Young Bucks
After the match, Don Callis gets in the ring with members of The Don Callis Family. Callis says he can forgive a lot, but the one thing that is an unforgivable sin is siding with Kenny Omega. Callis says he has the Young Bucks’ money, and he knows Omega isn’t going to finance them. Don challenges them to come to the ring and take it.
The Young Bucks come out on the stage and charge the ring. They take out Fletcher, Hechicero, and Josh Alexander. Matt Jackson gets the bag of money, but Okada comes to the ring and hits him with a Rainmaker. This distraction lets the rest of the Don Callis Family to take advantage of the situation.
Jurassic Express hits the ring and cleans house. Okada kicks Luchasaurus low and then gives Perry the middle finger. Perry bites Okada’s finger, but it attacked by multiple members of the Family. The numbers game catches up both tag teams, allowing Callis to come in and get some cheap shots in on Matt and Nick.
This brings out Kenny Omega, not sure why he didn’t come out sooner, but I digress. Omega takes everyone out, and the Don Callis Family is sent scrambling up the aisle.
Hardcore Holiday Death Match: Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa vs. Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir (w/ Penelope Ford)
- The finish of the match saw Luther return, dressed up like Santa Claus, and distract Mina Shafir, allowing Toni Storm to hit her with a shoe and roll her up to score the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa
The Timeless Love Bombs will now face the Babes of Wrath to determine the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions.
Grade: A-
Talk about being pleasantly surprised. I thought for sure that Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir were winning this match after the Babes of Wrath won last week. I don’t mind an all babyface finals next week, and it certainly makes the finals even harder to predict. Very excited for Winter is Coming next week.
A not-so-happy reunion
Dark Order are backstage. Evil Uno is hyping up their trios match tonight in hopes of earning a shot at the AEW World Trios Championship. Hangman Page comes in with a chain, and Alex Reynolds immediately cuts him off and says he knows he’s out for blood, but tells him not to ruin tonight for them tonight. Page says he owes them that much, but makes it clear as soon as the match is over, he’s coming for The Opps.
Mercedes Moné will compete at Final Battle
Renee Paquette is backstage with Mercedes Moné. A simple segment done to hype Mercedes’ first appearance at Ring of Honor this Friday night, as she’ll have a rematch with Red Velvet for the Ring of Honor Women’s World Television Championship.
HOOK, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata vs. Dark Order
- The finish of the match saw Powerhouse Hobbs hit Evil Uno with a spinebuster to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: The Opps
After the match, Hangman Page hits the ring with his hand wrapped in a chain and attacks Hobbs and Shibata. Page is eventually restrained by security, but he takes them all out for good measure. The Opps run away before Page can continue his assault.
Grade: B
The match was fine. It was a showcase win for The Opps and was essentially just done because of Page’s history with Dark Order. The aftermath was technically more important than anything else.
AEW attempts to explain why the Unified Championship isn’t up for grabs in the Continental Classic
Renee Paquette is backstage with Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, and Don Callis. They are quickly interrupted by Konosuke Takeshita, but cooler heads prevail. Paquette grills Callis about why the Unified Championship isn’t being defended in the Continental Classic.
Callis says he’s not an idiot and a degenerate gambler like Nick Jackson. Callis says that was a risk not worth taking. Fletcher says that with the three of them in the tournament, the Continental Championship would remain in the family, and the International Title wouldn’t be going anywhere.
Hangman Page is an angry cowboy
Hangman Page is backstage and cuts an angry promo about HOOK costing him the AEW World Championship at Full Gear. Page challenges Powerhouse Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata to a tag team match next week, and Winter is Coming and declares he won’t be coming alone. I would assume this means he’ll be teaming with Swerve Strickland, but that wasn’t confirmed.
Continental Classic Blue League: Jon Moxley vs. Claudio Castagnoli
- The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli hit Jon Moxley with a launching tornado uppercut to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Grade: A-
Claudio Castagnoli celebrates while Jon Moxley looks dejected at ringside as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
AEW Dynamite Review:
I thought tonight was an excellent episode of AEW Dynamite. Every single match tonight that was supposed to deliver did so. We knew what that trios match was meant to be nothing more than storyline advancement, and it did the job it was supposed to do.
The Continental Classic continues to shine for AEW, and all three matches tonight delivered in their own way. The main event between Moxley and Castagnoli was damn good and certainly helps position Castagnoli as the future leader of the Death Riders when they want to pull that trigger. I’m not sure when that’s going to happen, but it seems very evident that Moxley’s days as a member of the Death Riders are numbered.
Grade: A-
