An injury to a top WWE talent forced a main event to be taken off of Survivor Series next month.
Last Friday night on WWE SmackDown, a number one contender’s match between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre was set to take place. Unfortunately, due to a real-life dental injury Fatu is currently dealing with, he was written off television in a backstage attack. This led to a match being made between Cody Rhodes and McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, this wasn’t the original plan.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship was originally set to take place at Survivor Series. And the contender’s match between McIntyre and Fatu was set to happen at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
However, due to Fatu’s injury, everything got moved up, and the match between Rhodes and McIntyre got moved off Survivor Series in favor of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
As of this writing, it’s unknown what roles Rhodes and McIntyre will have at Survivor Series next month. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
WWE has a lot of top talent injured right now
Not only is Fatu currently sidelined with a dental injury on SmackDown, but WWE is having issues on RAW, too.
On Monday night, RAW General Manager Adam Pearce stripped Seth Rollins of the World Heavyweight Championship for an injury he suffered earlier this month at Crown Jewel.
While Fatu is expected to be back in about a month, Rollins’ injury will keep him out much longer. There are currently rumblings that Rollins won’t be back in time for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
