The Man Called Sting met a man named Sting.
Sting is happily enjoying his retirement from in-ring competition, but he still makes regular appearances on the convention circuit. The Icon is currently in the middle of his “2025 or Never” tour, which will see him stop making live appearances in facepaint. He recently spoke with Justin Dhillon of The Wrestling Classic and revealed a fan tribute that moved him to a great degree.
“There was one guy that came up with — not a pink slip, but we called them pink slips in California. But it was like a deed to a car or automobile, and it had his [real name],” he explained. “He wanted to show it to me, to show how authentic it was. But his middle name is ‘Sting.’ Yeah.”
Sting didn’t say whether the fan legally changed his name (rather than his parents giving him the name). Either way, it’s still quite a gesture to make.

In regard to his in-ring retirement, which took place at AEW Revolution 2024, Sting said it was a surreal situation. There, Sting was accompanied to the ring by his sons, Steven and Garrett, who donned makeup and attire from his ‘surfer’ and ‘Wolfpac’ eras. Garrett even got involved in the match, delivering Stinger Splashes to the Young Bucks.
Speaking to Dhillon, Sting went as far as calling it the highlight of 40 years for him.
“It was exactly as I envisioned it being, a dream, a surreal kind of situation to actually witness it. Even though I pictured it happening exactly the way it did. But an amazing night, and that is why it just is going to be etched in my mind forever. It’s probably the highlight of 40 years for me.”
