A big update has come in about AJ Lee possibly appearing on WWE SmackDown in Chicago this Friday.
Rumors of her return started after Becky Lynch cost CM Punk his World Heavyweight title match at WWE Clash in Paris. Things heated up on RAW when Lynch slapped Punk during their confrontation.
Afterward, CM Punk teased AJ Lee’s return when general manager Adam Pearce informed him that WWE SmackDown is taking place in his hometown of Chicago. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer later reported that WWE’s plan for Wrestlepalooza is a tag team match: CM Punk and AJ Lee vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Fightful (via Fightful Select) has now added to the speculation, saying WWE sources strongly hinted that AJ Lee will be part of SmackDown in some way. It could be her actual return or just a tease before she officially comes back.
The reports also added that the company wants her return to be more than a one time appearance, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. CM Punk has already teased her comeback.
He fueled speculation once again by posting a cartoon picture of a devil on his Instagram story with the words, “Okay… you asked for it.” Lee hasn’t been seen in WWE since 2015, but reports now suggest she is set to be in action at WWE Wrestlepalooza.
The excitement for WWE SmackDown has grown, as it will be interesting to see if she will actually appear or if WWE will drop a teaser for her return. Only time will tell.
