Vince McMahon recently spoke about the late wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, saying that he does not believe that Hogan was racist, even though he did say some racist things.
The former WWE Chairman recently appeared as part of TMZ’s documentary on the Hulkster in the aftermath of the pro wrestling icon’s passing. During the course of the interview, McMahon opened up about his thoughts on Hogan’s racist comments from a 2007 leaked tape and the reaction that he had to them, both personally and professionally.
“It was unforgivable and I was agasp, ‘What happened?’” McMahon said. “When those things occurred, that’s not like him. ‘What in God’s name is going on?'”
McMahon revealed WWE proceeded to cut ties with Hulk Hogan, removing him from the Hall of Fame in the aftermath of the controversy.
“As soon as it happened, obviously, the company didn’t have anything to do with him anymore. We took him out of the Hall of Fame. You just don’t do those things.”
Vince McMahon says Hulk Hogan wasn’t racist
Defending his decision to reinstate Hulk Hogan into the Hall of Fame, McMahon said, “I knew he wasn’t racist. I’ve been with him for so many years. He wasn’t racist. He said some racist things. He should pay for that, and he did. In the end, I think everyone saw the real Hulk Hogan, Terry Bollea, and they felt, ‘Wait a minute, this guy doesn’t act like a racist. He’s not a racist.’ We all make mistakes. That was a big one, but he wasn’t a racist.” [H/T Fightful]
Hulk Hogan passed away from a heart attack on July 24. His funeral service was attended by Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Kevin Nash, among others.
