Josh Alexander was looking to gauge AEW’s interest before signing with TNA in 2019.
Speaking with The Wrestling Classic on Casual Conversations, Alexander recalled his initial conversation with The Young Bucks prior to AEW’s formation back in 2019 and how that led to a run with TNA.
“Full disclosure, before I signed with TNA, I heard murmurs of this new company starting up,” Josh Alexander said. “It didn’t have a name at the time, nothing had been announced. I had worked with the Bucks, so I reached out to one of them and was like, ‘Is this a real thing?’ They were like, ‘Yeah.’ ‘Would there be any interest in me because I would love to be part of something like this.’ They said, ‘Not right now.’
“That’s when TNA came along and I went there. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to go to TNA. Being older and little wiser, I’ve come to understand that everything does happen for a reason and you have to follow the path that you’re on. It might get rocky at times, but everything works out in the end.” [H/T Fightful]
Josh Alexander Says TNA Never Made Him A Contract Offer As A Free Agent
Elsewhere during the conversation, Josh Alexander said TNA never made him an offer to consider during his free agency.
“I mean, I had the meeting with TNA a year before, and then they picked up my option. I’m like, ‘OK guys, I’m going to — I’d be doing my family a disservice by not seeing what else is out there from a financial aspect, opportunity perspective. So you guys come to the table with an offer and I’ll definitely [consider it]. I love this place, I love the locker room.’ And part of me is like, I don’t want to leave. But it doesn’t make sense to stay if it isn’t in the same ballpark. They never made me an offer. Ever.
Alexander made his AEW debut at Dynamite Spring BreakThru, when he showed up as the wild card entrant in the Owen Hart Tournament match-up against ‘Hangman’ Adam Page. The Walking Weapon failed to pick up the win, but ultimately formed an alliance with The Don Callis Family.
