Anthony Greene Credits Japan For Making Him A Better Wrestler, Filmed 8 Weeks Of TV In India

Anthony Greene shares his experiences on Pro Wrestling NOAH After WWE and short stints in AEW.

Anthony Greene, formerly known as August Grey in WWE, showcased his talents on 205 Live and NXT from 2020 to 2021. After WWE released him, Greene briefly competed in AEW before making his Pro Wrestling NOAH debut at NOAH Sunny Voyage 2022. Since then, he has continued wrestling in NOAH as a freelancer where he build his presence in Japan.

Recently, Greene appeared in MLW Battle Riot VII, entering the 40-Man Battle Riot Match for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Although Matt Riddle won the match, Greene’s participation marked another major step in his career.

During an interview with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Anthony Greene explained how living and wrestling in Japan helped him grow both personally and professionally. He explained how it helped him evolve as a wrestler while adapting to a new culture.

Anthony Greene on his run in Pro Wrestling NOAH

“Wrestling in Japan is completely different from wrestling in America. So, I think it helped me become a better wrestler because I had to adapt to a different style without changing my style. I went in there as the same wrestler. I never changed what I did; I just had to adapt to what they were doing. If that makes sense. I think overall, just like the schedule, wrestling new people constantly in front of different audiences. And then, on top of the wrestling, just the culture of everything. It’s a completely different way of life.”

“And you kind of have to learn how to be lonely while not being alone. Because, my first few tours, I was in the Dojo living with other people. But a lot of the time, it’s like you miss your family. You miss your regular everyday… ‘I like to go to this gym, I like to get this breakfast at this place.’ And all that’s completely gone. And you kind of have to make a new ritual and a new schedule.”

Greene said that he developed a good routine in Japan, which is much different than the United States. He joked that he felt like he was living two different lives on two different schedules.

Anthony Greene on his experience wrestling in India

Greene also performed in India for Wrestling Xtreme Mania (WXM), where he taped eight weeks of TV shows. He spoke about his experience working with Indian wrestlers and fans reactions.

“So, it’s funny you use the word, unproven. Because, I have to say this group of wrestlers that I worked with last week, are full of untapped potential. Legitimately as good as some of the independent wrestlers in the United States that are unsigned. Their level of training is incredible. Athleticism, their willingness to learn. I can’t go into too much detail [on] what it is yet. But you guys can check it out. It’s called WXM. Wrestling Xtreme Mania. We filmed eight weeks of television. Genuinely, some really good TV was produced I believe. The crowds were incredible. Very engaging audience. I was not sure what to expect from the wrestling, or the audience, or production-wise. But, it was up there with top-level TV production, easily.”
